Not too long ago, I wrapped up my spring internship as a Creative Media Intern with MediaNug. During my time this semester, I had the privilege of being submersed in the fast-paced environment of the media industry, working with both the Entertainment and the Content Teams from development to delivery. Creating mood boards with examples of color-grading, music, imagery, and thematic principles helped give inspiration to build out decks. These decks were utilized in pitching to potential clients for future movie promotions and ads used across various social media platforms, including but not limited to TikTok, Snapchat, Youtube, and Meta. I learned the ins and outs of sourcing and outreach, specifically in the context of gaining permission to use a creator’s content in MediaNug’s Snapchat shows. I’d like to give many thanks to Christopher Heiman for his guidance and mentorship, the opportunity to join the team, and his insistence I get involved with as many different processes in the organization as possible. I’d also like to thank Brendan Bodi and Alex Hausman for welcoming me with open arms and offering every opportunity to learn new things about this multi-faceted industry. Bringing on a remote intern with classes and a time change to work around requires flexibility, adaptability, and quite a bit of extra effort. I cannot express my gratitude and appreciation enough for this team, their efforts, and pushing me to grow as a professional. Just when you think you've hit the marketing jackpot with a flood of form submissions over the weekend 🚀... Plot twist: it's just our intern, making sure 'submit' actually means 'submit' and not 'send your details into the digital void.' 🕳️💻 Big shoutout to our interns, who are out there making sure our digital paperwork actually works. And here I was, ready to pop the champagne, thinking we'd just set a new record. 🍾😂 Lesson of the day? Every form submission counts, but maybe double-check those numbers before you start celebrating. Also, huge props to the behind-the-scenes heroes making sure our marketing machinery runs smoothly—even if it means giving us false alarms now and then. What credentials? 😲 New Mac Air on the left, my 25-year-old laptop on the right from my college years that I started my first business with. (166mhz with a 3GB hard drive. Speeeeed! 😂 ) We started a web design and advertising business during college (in the heat of the Dot Com era). I did a bunch of free work for a few people, and was fortunate to get an unpaid internship in Boston with a brand-new pharma ad agency. One day a month or so after my internship ended that new agency called and asked if I could make some ads for their newly won client (A giant pharma company). I said, "Sure, What are the guidelines?" They said, "Just come up with stuff for these allergy meds, send over your ads, and we’ll let you know if we need changes." I thought, "ok..." I made my ads, sent them over and they were approved. We were doing thousands in revenue from our dorm room on a $17 dollar Kmart desk. I remember the first ad I made for the allergy med, a picture of a dog, do I make your sneeze? Then the med logo and tagline. Simple! The lesson is don’t let lack of training hold you back, just jump in and be helpful. The feedback from the market will tell you how to adjust course. Heck, we were 19-20 year old kids doing work for some of the biggest companies in the world. Go for it! I'm rooting for you! 🚀 🚀 🚀 #startup #entrepreneurship #sales #internship

📝 "The intern was crazy for this" 💥 "The intern really popped off on this one" 💰 "The intern deserves a raise for this social media post" Can we please stop pretending that company social media is handled by interns in 2024? Maybe that was the case back when MySpace was a thing, but today, social media is crucial to a company's image. Creating effective social media content isn't just about handing over the login details to an intern and letting them go wild on their first day. It requires careful strategy, planning, and collaboration to produce results. "So unhinged"? More like two weeks of negotiations with the legal team to convince Jim, Jack, and José that our post wouldn't undermine the brand before we got approval to hit 'publish'. #SocialMediaStrategy #NotAnIntern (Side note: Jim, Jack, and José really need to loosen up! 😅)

My impressions skyrocketed by 1 million % in the past year. But... that’s really just 65, 729 impressions in total. You may think that number is small. Or pretty decent. For me, it’s insignificant. Why? My goals when I started posting on LinkedIn were simple: 1. Post once a week, no excuses 2. Connect with creators, founders & gamechangers 3. Learn from exceptional people, then share their stories, habits and mindsets The only numbers game I was playing was *consistency*. So since November last year, I’ve: ✍️ Learned how to turn writer’s block into a myth, 👑 Met at least one awesome person each week, and 🐐 Interviewed legends including 🌞 Dan Brockwell, Tim Noakesmith, Niamh Sullivan. Writing on LinkedIn has also created unexpected ROI, like… Landing an internship for a role I wasn’t applying for (but was actually more passionate about). So what have the past 4 months taught me? That “quality over quantity” really means… Celebrate the *qualitative* wins, not just the *quantitative* ones. And the next time you’re looking at your impressions, don’t just think numbers. Think about the impression you’ve made on *people*. That’s what truly matters.
