LIV Golf League reserve player John Catlin moved into his familiar position on top of the leaderboard today after an opening round 7-under 66 gave him the lead, along with New Zealand’s rising star Kazuma Kobori at the International Series Morocco (US$2 million) 📈 Catlin, the Asian Tour Order of Merit leader, has filled in for the injured Charles Howell III on Crushers Golf Club in the last two LIV Golf events in Houston and Nashville. He finished T7 in Nashville after rounds of 66-66-70 💪 In Morocco this week, Catlin started hot once again 🔥 #LIVGolf

LIV Golf, what to make of it. Is it turning golf on its head, or is it just a sideshow making a lot of noise and will soon fizzle out? Things took an interesting turn this week with LIV golfer Talor Gooch claiming that if Rory McIlroy wins the Masters next month, there will be an asterisk against his victory because not all the best players were in the field. So, following Gooch's logic, could you argue that could be said for every Masters champion who won while Tiger Woods wasn't in the field as he recovered from various injuries? Whatever Gooch says and thinks, he wouldn't have qualified because of his current world ranking, plus he didn't play in any events outside LIV. Does Gooch have a point, or is it just sour grapes because he didn't receive an invite? The other big LIV news this week concerns the return of Anthony Kim. Once heralded as the next biggest thing, Kim's star shone brightest in the late 2000s and early 2010s. Kim disappeared from golf in 2012, through a mixture of injury and questionable recreational activities, remaining in exile until turning up in Jeddah this week for the latest LIV event. LIV has long trumpeted its ability to attract the best players in the world, and they could have been winning that argument with the $500 million capture of Jon Rahm, but what signal does it send out bringing in Anthony Kim? LIV have brought Kim to compete as an individual while he gets his competitive juices flowing again, but will Kim do anything other than prop up the rest of the field for the tournaments he'll play in? Who knows, it is a real 50/50. If Kim plays great, it's an incredibly smart move by LIV. If Kim had looked to get back on the PGA Tour, the road would have been long, playing through the various mini-tours to fight his way back to the big time with no guarantees of success. As we head into March and just over a month to the Masters, the world of professional golf continues to intrigue us. #golflife #professionalgolf #golfblogger #livgolf #pgatour
