In our industry, comparing W-2 jobs to agents1099 positions, is like comparing apples to oranges. One is good for a lot of folks, the other is good for a lot of other folks. Recruiters and others who are VERY actively slamming W-2 incentive and bonus plans, without reminding their prospects they walk away from ALL guaranteed pay and salary, aren't serving anyone but themselves. The higher the risk, the higher the reward. Nothing has changed here, except the pitch. Be mindful and be careful freight friends! #freight #sales #3pl

I’ll bite on this ( although the post you are referencing suprsingly wasn’t my post😂). I don’t think agent models are right for everyone, I try to explain the risks wether it be salary, insurance, restricve covenants, lack of structure to everyone I talk to. I refer some people to w2 recruiters. There are also a number of factors wether the rep is ctg or on a split model. But, what I hope most people can agree on is signing kids fresh out of college and having them sign a non compete and giving them 4 percent comission is not right. Just within the last few months I had a kid reach out who was about to sign with a company with a non compete and low comp structure after leaving college. I recommended some w2 companies and am happy to say he interviewed got the job and moved across the country for it. I got paid $0 for that, I don’t have a kickback or marketing deals with any of the high paying w2 brokerages I promote or send people to I just think it’s the right thing to do. The majority of potential agents that reach out to me are not coming from high paying w2s they are coming from low paying ones with bad culutures. That’s my 2 cents.

100% agreed! It’s not a true apple to Apple comparison! The question is would you ever hire an agent without a book of business or industry knowledge?

Great point. W-2 jobs and 1099 positions each have their own benefits and suit different needs. It's important for recruiters to be transparent about the trade-offs, ensuring candidates make informed decisions 🙌

I would hope that any W-2 rep considering an agent role is smart enough to know what they're walking away from to become an agent. If they don't, they really don't understand what an agent is in general.

Def agree. 💯 Transparency is key.
