5 years ago I landed my dream job working at Techstars and the experience changed my life. Here’s how: Among many other responsibilities, as the Portfolio Manager, my role was to: - Find investment opportunities - Apply our strategy to make investment decisions - And negotiate our way into deals Every week I’d look at somewhere between 10 and 100 opportunities. 5 key lessons I learned from my time there include: - It’s easier to be disciplined when you have a lot of deal flow - It’s hard to understand what a good deal is without seeing a lot of them - To filter through tons of deal flow, you need a system - Traction & track record often trump everything else - After time passes,we lie to ourselves about why we invested or passed on a deal Once you understand these principles → you’ll increase your investing batting average.
