In light of the #KingsSpeech and the Government's intention to "accelerate housebuilding" it's interesting to see #communitylandtrusts' potential highlighted in this Shelter report on delivering social homes. Thanks for sharing Community Land Trust Network. Besides recognising the 7,600 social rent homes/year CLTs could deliver – given supportive policies – the Brick by Brick report recognises key characteristics of CLTs: 🏡 "CLTs unlock the capacity of communities to drive additional delivery opportunities, steer housing delivery to meet local need, and secure public support through diverse community involvement and empowerment to deliver thriving new neighbourhoods." 🏡 "CLTs' broad community membership… pushes new developments to reflect the needs of the actual community, not just the design ideas of private developers or the complaints of the most vocal residents opposed to any building, helping to reduce local opposition and build wide support." Good to see this highlighted in a vital report. 👉 CLTs on page 46; read in full here 👉https://lnkd.in/eJ_Sdmua
Shelter has published a detailed report on how to get up to providing 90,000 new social rent homes a year - much needed! It includes a substantial section on Community Land Trusts, which we estimated could make up 8% of that target.
