The diaspora in action There are currently around 3.2M Puerto Ricans living in the island and about 5.8M living in the United States; the statistics are mind blowing. In order to provoke sustainable socioeconomic growth, we need more Boricuas in the diaspora like Alexandra Valentin to get involved with local causes. While no destination is perfect, there are always tradeoffs. In the past 5 years, I have personally witnessed Puerto Rico turn the corner and become a unique destination. However, those changes are impacting certain niche markets, like real estate, technology and manufacturing. Nevertheless, we need to replicate impact across the board in other industries.
