For the sixth year, Time Out has published its annual popularity contest of the 40 coolest neighbourhoods in the world. This year, Haven – the Copenhagen Harbour – took fourth place. Over 12,000 people voted for the shortlist, which was then narrowed down ‘with the insight and expertise of city editors and local experts who know their cities better than anyone else’. “What are the places locals love and visitors flock to? Where are the exciting new openings across food, drink and culture? Where are people going out, hanging out and having fun?” writes the media. “To create and rank the final list, we considered factors including community and social ventures, access to open and green space, and thriving street life.” Havnen’s cool credentials Time Out picked out a few venues to highlight Havnen’s cool credentials: “The Royal Danish Theatre and its hangout space Ofelia Plads overlook the water, and the Kissing Bridge leads to the brand-new Opera Park. But the whole area is seeing a host of new openings, including much-hyped bakery Hart Bageri Holmen and the new ‘urban oasis’ at Papiroen” Time Out’s top five coolest cities in the world: 1. Laureles, Medellín, Colombia 2. Smithfield, Dublin, Ireland 3. Carabanchel, Madrid, Spain 4. Havnen, Copenhagen, Denmark 5. Sheung Wan, Hong Kong Full story: https://lnkd.in/d5J9A6mg

🏛️🌍📚"Although the Foundation does not specifically address the issue of human rights, this is clearly a fundamental and indispensable dimension of the sustainability of development. Hosting the presence of the Global Campus of Human Rights in Venice is an undeniable added value. Internationalization and discussion of delicate issues such as this bring Venice back to its central value: that of a city that has always been a crossroads of peoples and cultures, therefore of exchange and sharing. But access to education and education also fall within the sphere of fundamental rights: with the “Venezia Città Campus” project, for the development of the knowledge economy in Venice, we want to bring new life to the city, betting on its ability to train young people and retain talent. To do this, we need to provide the infrastructure and services necessary to make our places competitive in training, research, and innovation. And to do so compatibly with the carrying capacity of a very peculiar and fragile territory." “Every day an area of land the size of Manhattan gets urbanized,” writes author Ben Wilson, in this historical overview of cities and nature. He argues that the smart way to reduce the damage of global urbanization is to restore the ecological functions of cities. From New York City to Berlin and Singapore, he looks at how inventive cities are leading the way to bring nature back to urban life. Amsterdam “aspires to perform at least as well as a healthy ecosystem.” In ASLA's THE DIRT, learn more about Urban Jungle: The History and Future of Nature in the City and other Top 10 Books of 2023: https://bit.ly/3RDS0pt Image Credit: Urban Jungle: The History and Future of Nature in the City / Doubleday, 2023

https://lnkd.in/eBpEsjzY I'm with #Budapest100 and colleagues: when is 'modern'? When does modern qualify as heritage? Can modern be accepted as heritage even if not everyone agrees - controversial heritage, dissonant heritage, heritage that is celebrated as European, even sometimes if not so by host countries or communities? I'm here to present the Europa Nostra European Heritage Award to Budapest100 for leadership in informed revelation and inspiring topical debate.
