Our body is a sack of chemicals & chemical reactions. These chemical reactions are driven by the nutrients we consume. While plants have more than we have, our biology is really unique as it is driven less by what our own genes are doing, but majorly by biochemical activities performed by our microbiome. Epigenetically we are more microbial than human & our physiology is controlled by these microbes. Food ontology is a combination of 30,000 plus molecules, it is an information which tells DNA what has to be done. These food ingredients act as an external trigger which activates a particular gene, DNA molecules are copied into RNA molecules which transform gene sequence into protein that perform a particular biological function. Still we are obsessed or fall for these calorie counting solutions thinking it is a magic wand to recoup our health. Infact, I have even seen people mentioning that Butyrate( Short chain fatty acid) does not offer calories & is not important.Clearly these folks have miniscule understanding of human biochemistry Let us dig deeper into butyrate. Butyrate is an essential short chain fatty acid which is not produced by our own genes. Rather , our gut microbes sense fibre, prebiotics & polyphenols & expresses a gene that extracts the chemical energy from these substrates & releases butyrate as a byproduct. This byproduct has a key role to play in regulating our satiety & blood sugar level. However, the benefits do not stop here. Some of the most vital functions butyrate perform includes : -It feeds our intestine cells -It regulates our own genes expression -It acts as a signal to convert T cells into memory T cells which stimulates potent response upon repeat encounter with antigen. These cells are long lived & can protect against subsequent infections. https://lnkd.in/g4nWSWbx Understand your biochemistry rather than falling for these no science no research calorie counting solutions. Curious about the quality of pea protein? 🤔 There's a lot of misinformation out there about plant proteins and their effectiveness for athletes. Studies have debunked these old beliefs and shown that plant proteins, particularly soy and pea protein, provide all the essential amino acids necessary for muscle building, recovery, and overall athletic performance. 💪 Pea protein, in particular, stands out due to its high bioavailability. Research suggests that it can promote muscle growth as effectively as animal-derived proteins. 🏋️♂️ Join Palmer Holland and PURIS for a webinar featuring a panel of prestigious speakers, including Jenna Stangland, MS, RDN, CSSD, LDN, CLT, the sports dietitian for the Minnesota Timberwolves. She'll be diving deeper into the science behind plant proteins and their Protein Digestibility-Corrected Amino Acid Scores (PDCAAS). Don't miss out on this opportunity to learn more and join the conversation! 👇 Webinar Link: https://lnkd.in/gWGmGUJe
As a former NFL player (“Not For Long”) turned CEO of PURIS, I've often encountered the bias that athletes should shy away from plant-based proteins due to their supposed lack of completeness. I’ve heard the well-intentioned yet misguided advice, “you can’t build muscle on a plant protein diet, whey is the only choice.” This belief system is deep into the subconscious of athletes, weekend warriors, and everyday people trying to consume more protein. So where did it come from? If you Google “is soy protein good for athletes,” the top suggested related searches point to the narrative that soy protein is bad for males. Historically, the plant protein inferiority theory was mainly focused on soy and the baggage soy protein carries. Depending on your beliefs on GMO vs non-GMO or how soy protein is made (using hexane), the narrative around soy protein was that it is bad for athletes, especially males, and has inferior amino acids (it doesn’t) Google is a search engine, but it's not always a truth engine. Studies debunk these old beliefs, showing that plant proteins, especially soy and pea protein, provide all the essential amino acids necessary for muscle building, recovery, and overall athletic performance. Pea protein stands out due to its high bioavailability, meaning your body can efficiently utilize the nutrients it offers. Sourced from the right suppliers pea protein is quite Google friendly! For example, research indicates that pea protein can promote muscle growth as effectively as animal-derived proteins. This is crucial for athletes looking to maintain and build muscle mass without relying on traditional animal sources. At PURIS, we want to have more conversations about this, not fewer. So, we are hosting a webinar with some prestigious panelists, including one specifically who has a unique perspective on the diets of the highest level of athletes. Jenna Stangland, MS, RDN, CSSD, LDN, CLT is the sports dietitian for the Minnesota Timberwolves (competing highly in the playoffs, IYKYK), and she is joining PURIS to dive deeper into the science behind plant proteins and their Protein Digestibility-Corrected Amino Acid Scores (PDCAAS). Our other important guests include (Dr Robert Wildman & James House). Don’t miss this webinar and do join the conversation in the comments below. Why MyBody? Why the GX? Five years ago, I wanted to take my ability and knowledge in writing individualized nutrition plans and fitness plans to the next level. I wanted to know what a person's body wanted regarding fuel, vitamins/minerals, activity, and overall healthy change. I partnered with a lab in North Texas that provided genetic testing. It was perfect! I could use my client's DNA to determine how to feed them for their goals. I analyzed their body composition and health history to prepare them for future success. But it wasn't something I could mass produce. Each test, each report, each plan was an individual program for that one person. Your Plan Your Goals Your DNA So the "MyBody" was to focus on "YourBody". The GX is shorthand for Genetics. MyBody GX is the focus on your body and your genetics. What is best for YOU!
