Gut health is effectively essential to our overall health and wellbeing. This is because more than half of our immune system is in the GI tract. Gut health/ digestive health is linked to many diseases, therefore keeping our digestive system on track is one of the best ways to prevent serious illness. Tips to improve your gut health; 1. Exercise/ physical activity- this gets your colon moving, leading to more frequent bowel movements 2. Eat a healthy diet- fresh fruit and veg, less processed foods 3. Eat smaller and more frequent meals- this avoids overloading the GI tract 4. Chew your food thoroughly- this eases the digestive process 5. Manage your stress levels- too much stress can impact upon your gut health 6. Probiotics- this increases the amount of good bacteria in your gut. Things like yogurt and kefir are a great source as well as supplements 7. Eat more fibre- try to aim for 25grams per day 8. More water!- eight glasses a day is a good start
