Rethinking Leadership for a Sustainable World: Insights from MIT IDEAS Asia Pacific Just wrapped up the IDEAS program at MIT Sloan School of Management Campus. In our current global landscape, marked by economic pressures, COVID-19 aftermath, & geopolitical crises exacerbating climate change, we urgently need leaders who can drive real transformation towards a better world, improved business practices, & prosperous societies. The brilliant minds guiding us: Peter Senge, Otto Scharmer, John Sterman, Jason Jay Katrin Kaufer, Ela Ben-Ur, David V Capodilupo, John Silvanus Wilson, J Phillip Thompson, & Joost Bonsen challenged, motivated, & inspired us to think holistically about complex problems & our role in solving them. Key takeaways that resonated deeply: 1. "Presencing", a powerful decision-making approach integrating past learnings, present awareness, & future anticipation. It demands continuous learning through curiosity (open mind), compassion (open heart), & courage to act kindly (open will). 2. Shifting from "ego-system" to "eco-system" thinking: Moving beyond self-centeredness to better relate to others, the whole system, & oneself. This shift is crucial in addressing conflict, excessive competition, & societal disparities. 3. Building learning organizations through systems thinking: Adopting a holistic approach to understand relationships & patterns within systems, enabling us to identify root causes, anticipate future challenges, & develop effective strategies. It's about seeing the bigger picture & understanding how everything is interconnected. 4. The power of S-Lab and the PROMISE framework, a comprehensive tool considering Personal Wellbeing, Relationships, Organizations, Market & Economy, Institutions & Politics, Society & Justice, & Environment. It highlights the interconnectedness of our actions & their far-reaching impacts. 5. "Innovator's COMPASS": A practical design thinking tool for navigating everyday challenges, prompting us to consider people involved, observations, principles, ideas, & experiments. 6. Sustainable finance and AI: Understanding its role in addressing societal challenges & disruptions. 7. EN-Roads simulation: A stark reality check on climate challenges, but also a reminder of our capacity to make a difference through informed action. The journey ahead is complex, requiring us to challenge our mental models & embrace discomfort. Yet, it's in this space of uncertainty that true innovation emerges. Margaret Mead's words resonate: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." Let's embody this sentiment through consistent, impactful actions that ripple outward. The future we shape starts with the decisions we make today. Gratitude to Elizabeth Galvin Orozco & Frans Ade Nugraha Sugiarta for orchestrating this transformative experience. #SustainableLeadership #SystemsThinking #MITGlobalPrograms #MITClimateProject

Thanks for the clear summary and call to action. Blessed to be on this journey with you Lucia Karina - you asked questions to help us discover and go deeper - to shine on the blind spots and uncover mindsets / artifacts / rules / business as usual that are no longer serving us.
