Anyone who doesn’t recognize that there is a crisis in our elite educational institutions isn’t paying attention. Per Bloomberg, “many of America’s top colleges had become Soviet-like in their lack of viewpoint diversity. As I noted, 96% of donations from Ivy League faculty and staff in the 2012 presidential election went to Barack Obama, while only 4% went to another Harvard alumnus, Mitt Romney.” There is obviously great irony in the fact elite universities place such emphasis on DEI at the exclusion of ideas and ideology. Elite universities have become monomaniacal bastions of illiberalism. Excellent talk about the state of higher education in the United States, including the difficulty to create one educational product that meets the needs of so many people involved (donors, faculty, students, etc...), the newish phenomenon that top tiered schools are no longer basing admissions on standardized test score (which raises the question, what is actually the criteria for who gets accepts and who doesn't - particularly at Ivy's), and also the importance of international students to these organizations. This was a good ep. 👍

A solid post-secondary education system is part of our Cdn foundation for a successful economy and for a bright future for our children and grandchildren. Capping tuition and reducing government funding is creating unsustainable financial pressures at our Canadian universities and colleges. Gov. Pritzker’s proposed FY25 budget includes significant investments in young learners and early childhood, but not nearly enough for the Early Childhood Access Consortium for Equity, a program to help educators get degrees and credentials. Angela Farwig, IAFC’s Vice President of Public Policy, Advocacy, & Research, called for more state investment in the ECACE in a Letter to the Editor for the Chicago Sun-Times. Angela penned the Letter to the Editor alongside Maya Portillo, Senior Early Childhood Policy Advisor at Advance Illinois, and Catherine Main, Senior Lecturer and Director of Early Childhood Education at the University of Illinois Chicago.
