I joined the WISE - Women In Safety Excellence mentorship program as I am a firm believer of leading by example. An approach that delivers a number of benefits including but not limited to: Inspiration: One is able to demonstrate behaviors aligned with their values by inspiring others to emulate similar behavior, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability. Trust and Credibility: Members are able to develop believability and authenticate indeed they can follow suit. The program also gains respect and admiration. Clarity of Expectations: Doubt, confusion and unanswered questions that bring ambiguity on the impact of the program is removed from aspiring members who may wish to take up the program. Motivation: Leading by example exhibits dedication, resilience, and professionalism for members to raise their hands and be intentional with their personal development. Positive Culture: Leading by example helps to create a positive organizational culture characterized by integrity, transparency, and accountability. This, in turn, contributes to member morale and engagement. Innovation and Creativity: This demonstrates openness to new ideas, risk-taking, and adaptability thus driving continuous improvement and growth. Personal Development: Leading by example requires self-awareness and continuous self-improvement. As a transformational leader, modelling is an attribute that automatically provides valuable learning opportunities, a growth mindset and a commitment to continuous improvement. Why should your company do this, too? Because smart organizations recognize the power of rapid connection and learning. I brought #speedmentoring to LWT: Advancing Women in Leadership in 2015 (with the magic of Karen Royer), and they've been doing it ever since. Bonus - I've shown up to help ever since. Why? November is National Gratitude Month, a time to celebrate and give thanks. It is the perfect opportunity to remember how important it is that we teach and model the power of gratitude to children. One way to do that...think of the mentors in your life and thank them. Maybe it was the coach who encouraged you to keep going, or the guidance counselor who insisted your dreams were within reach. I'm sure we all have one or more people who made a difference in your life, so let's say thanks to those very special people. The power of mentorship lies in the moments that spark curiosity, aspiration, and inspire potential. Even the littlest of moments can grow into big ones -- with a little encouragement, a little hope, and a little inspiration. Another way to thank your mentor(s)...become one yourself! Don't delay action chasing perfect. It's better to put something out there and learn from the result. Make it bad → Make it better You can't beat the iterative approach. It's that simple.
