Dad to 4 amazing boys - 25 years running recruitment consultancies, connecting senior finance professionals in London, Home Counties & beyond. A 'magical' approach to recruitment, retention & engagement. 07973 101521
I often post on LinkedIn about the power of strong relationships in business and how we focus on treating people well. I had a fantastic reminder of the benefits of this approach last week. Whilst recruiting for a CFO who I had placed, he said that he didn’t want to interview two of the four candidates I had short-listed for his FC role. We talked it through, he trusted me but we agreed that there was a fancy meal at stake if I'd misjudged this. For the first time in ages I was nervous about interviews. At the end of the day he uttered those words that I often say to my wife...“you were right!” He also told me how many calls he's had this week from 'agencies’ who knew he was recruiting. Many of them had treated him poorly when he was a candidate and it was his first-hand knowledge of how we operated that meant that he gave them short shrift (and he wasn’t that polite to some of them!). The relationship we've forged with this business and the senior team is a genuine partnership. It’s based on trust, doing the right thing, communication and honesty. For me, that was a very good day in the office. #consistency #relationships #seniorrecruiter #accountancyrecruitment #cfo #fd #hrdirector

As far as job descriptions go, ‘Business Consultant‘ has to be near the top of the list for most ambiguous. After all, you would struggle to find two more broad terms than ‘business’ and ‘consultant,’ so pair them up, and you’ve got a match made in heaven. Client Services Director, Co-Founder, and Recruitment Expert, dedicated to optimising talent acquisition and ensuring exceptional client satisfaction
Navigating counteroffers can be a complex dance. 🕺💼 When you're on the cusp of a role change and your current employer presents a counteroffer, it's crucial to weigh your options carefully. Here's my take on handling this delicate situation: Firstly, ask yourself why you decided to seek a new role. Was it for career progression, a better work-life balance, or perhaps for a more nurturing work environment? If the counteroffer doesn't address the core reasons for your departure, it might just be a temporary fix to a long-term aspiration. Reflect on the timing of the counteroffer. It often takes handing in your notice for an employer to realize your value. Consider whether you're comfortable staying in a place where it took the risk of losing you to prompt action. Discussing the counteroffer with a trusted mentor or advisor can provide invaluable perspective. They can help you dissect the pros and cons, ensuring you're not swayed by short-term gains over long-term career satisfaction. Remember, it's not just about the money. A salary bump is enticing, but it's the job content, opportunities for growth, and company culture that truly enrich your professional life. If the counteroffer doesn't enhance these aspects, it might be time to graciously decline and move forward. If you do consider accepting the counteroffer, have a candid conversation with your employer. Address your concerns and seek assurances that the reasons for your initial departure will be resolved. Transparency is key to making an informed decision. Ultimately, trust your instincts. If the new opportunity excites you and aligns with your career goals, it's likely the right path to pursue. Embrace the change with confidence, knowing it's a step towards your professional growth. Before you go, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this topic. Have you ever faced a counteroffer? How did you handle it?
