Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is one of the net zero technologies identified by the EU Commission under its Net Zero Industry Act. It has been around from over 40 years and it is an effective solution for reducing emissions from hard-to-abate industries, such as cement and iron and steel production. True, it is often the focus of a debate. This article addresses the most common misconceptions: 1) CCS is not safe: Scientific studies and empirical evidence confirm that storing large volumes of CO2 underground is viable, safe and even occurs naturally. 2) CCS is too expensive: The cost of CCS is decreasing as the technology develops and economies of scale are achieved. 3) CCS is only a temporary fix: CCS can provide a long-term solution to sequestering carbon from the atmosphere. 4) CCS is merely a way for oil and gas companies to justify continued production: CCS is a necessary complement to today's carbon-reduction strategies. Updates to the EU’s #Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) include new delegated regulation setting up an annual EU-wide reporting scheme on the #sustainability of #datacentres, however some people in the sector have highlighted that some reporting requirements unrelated to the sustainability of data centres have been included in the scheme. In this Inside Networks article, our Founder Ed Ansett mentioned about the possibility that the EED will put operators outside their comfort zones.
