#RespectForParentsDay was created to help recognize the important role parents play not only in a child's life but also in our communities. Important parental figures are not always biological and can also be grandparents, aunts and uncles, godparents, and even mentors. Despite clear evidence of the importance of engaging parental figures and families for youth in the juvenile justice system to create and maximize positive outcomes, families are often not included in strategic planning and are only included as an “add-on” to traditional system operations. Our client @Justice4families is working to change that. Founded and led by a parent of an incarcerated youth, J4F is a national juvenile justice reform organization that is founded and run by families who have been directly impacted by the juvenile justice system.
