Inspired by Kate Griggs' visionary work, founding Made By Dyslexia, I've been contemplating the future of #GenAI and its harmonious potential with #DyslexicThinking. As someone who has navigated the challenges and embraced the strengths of dyslexia, I see an exciting horizon where our unique way of processing the world becomes an invaluable asset in the age of artificial intelligence. Dyslexic thinking – characterized by strengths in visualising, imagining, communicating, reasoning, connecting, and exploring – aligns perfectly with the core skills needed to drive innovation and solve complex problems in collaboration with GenAI. These are not just soft skills but powerful tools for creativity, strategy, and interpersonal relationships, highly sought after in every workplace, as highlighted by the World Economic Forum 2023 Report. As we enter an era where AI supports and enhances human capability, the dyslexic ability to think laterally, see the big picture, and connect seemingly unrelated dots becomes more relevant than ever. It's time to celebrate and leverage these abilities, showing the world that dyslexic thinking can indeed be the perfect co-pilot in navigating the challenges and opportunities GenAI presents. Show me what you got! Far too many in the training and development field are one person bands. We've got to handle being content creators, educators, tech support and instructional designers. With all those responsibilities comes a great need for visibility and feedback! This is why I always think we should... 🌟 Showcase our work! If you've made something, even if it's not quite ready for prime time, show your colleagues and get their feedback. You get important input validation, visibility outside the target audience of the training, and most importantly you help grow a culture of feedback! 🔄 Embrace the power of feedback: Act on it once you have that feedback! Make it clear that helpful and honest critiques are welcomed, and when there are nits to be picked or changes to be made - thank the contributor! I go into every online course with some degree of scepticism. All too often, I’m left thinking: “𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵’𝘴 8 𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘢 30 𝘮𝘪𝘯 𝘱𝘰𝘥𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘵” ❌ What’s worse is I’m usually paying to do them! I feel the same way about business books. So, I kept this front of mind last year when writing my own book. “Does this add value?” was the approval process for every page ✅ Thankfully, I had a very honest team calling me out if this wasn’t the case (my ego eventually recovered, in case anyone was concerned) Needless to say, though, we took the same approach to our course. Our goal was to deliver the absolute essentials for employee advocacy success for both newcomers and the seasoned alike, and we had a "zero waffle" policy. So, we were over the moon to see and hear that people are enjoying the course and getting plenty of value from it. Better still, the reviews echo what we were trying to achieve—clear and concise learning for the time-poor learner. We recently hit a milestone of 500 course alumni, and we’ve built a community of nearly 200 people since we launched the course at the start of the year. “Speak up” or “just be more confident” is terrible advice. Workplaces often turn to soft skills training as a remedy for a lack of belonging, and prescribe individual solutions for systemic issues. Yesterday, Fix The Broken Rung hosted a webinar on Unlearning Silence at Work featuring Jeanne Lam, advisor & former president of Wattpad, and Elaine Lin Hering, best-selling author of Unlearning Silence. As Elaine says in the clip below, “speak up” fails to acknowledge how authority figures don’t give us permission… Or penalize us when we do… Or control the goal posts: smile more, smile less, talk faster, talk slower, etc….
