My LinkedIn Learning course, Hiring and Supporting Neurodiversity in the Workplace, is in Nine (9) Languages and has over 58,000 learners. It was written in 2020 and recorded during COVID-19 from my office with a remote crew in 2021. Well, it's time for a revision! I am writing the 2024 version of the course and would like to hear from anyone with constructive feedback and suggestions for the new course. Please keep the following in your thoughts: 1. This is an intro course, and I have to assume the learner does not know anything about Neurodiversity 2. This course is for the workplace, bringing awareness and providing strategies for individuals to make their workplace more neuroinclusive. 3. I only have about an hour, and each video is only 500 words. I can't cover everything (even though I try!!!) 4. I may get some things wrong. OR, things will change after the course is written. If you want employees who will adapt to disruption, not cause adverse disruption, we've got to start upskilling the workforce more quickly in soft skills, especially emotional intelligence. Right now we have too many adult workers creating chaos. Many of them probably haven't had much (if any?) formal training in emotional intelligence, which would help them become more self aware and better manage their emotions. Why the hurry? For several years now, we've realized the value of having workers with effective soft skills. Now we have a growing skills gap with many pre-K through high school students learning SEL (social emotional learning) skills at school. These young people may have empathy for their elders but it's unfair to ask the younger generation to take all the responsibility for training older adults in emotional intelligence. And what about the adults who don't yet believe in the business case for SEL-type skills? Talk about work conflicts! In this Forbes Coaches Council article, I share the challenges I'm seeing in this area as well as suggestions on how to address them.
