I GO THE EXTRA MILES TO MASTER SIMPLE THINGS AS A BRILLIANT DYSLEXIC STUDENT... My childhood experience.... While growing up with dyslexia, I had a hard time mastering things as simple as days of the week, months of the year and name of colors. While it seemed simple to my classmates, I had to sit down to think and process what day it was. You don't want to know when I could confidently say what day of the week, color and all other seemingly simple stuff.... Laughter For children growing up with dyslexia, simple things can become very hard to master and remember, even if they are brilliant. Most times, they usually have to put in extra effort to master the seeming easy things. As a result, it is important that dyslexic children are given time to master certain things and time to also process the information when asked questions. I can remember the multiplication table was also a very arduous task for me.. Laughter...I was only able to master it when I took time to understand the logic behind it. So it is important for dyslexic children to have a proper understanding of what they are expected to master. If they have a proper understanding, they will most likely remember and for them to effectively master things, you will most likely have to repeat that same thing several times before their brain masters it, and then it becomes hard for them to forget. In the primary school I attended, after writing every note from the board, the pupils had to read what was on the board several times until it stuck to their memory. It was very tiring but honestly worth it. In summary, teachers and parents have to do the extra work of specially explaining and ensuring several repetition for dyslexic children to understand and master things. This struggle isn't for just young dyslexics! I will be posting about similar experiences in different dimensions as an adult dyslexic by next week.
