Good morning LinkedIn and Happy Taco Tuesday!!! I hope that everyone is doing well. What you see here is an X-ray record from Russia. You see, rock and roll at one point was illegal in the old USSR. But you can't stop rock, so the ingenuous music lovers of the old Soviet Union had to figure out a way to make music available to the masses. With a limited amount of material available, these musical heroes figured out that X-rays were a wonderful medium for music to be produced and distributed. This particular X-ray record is Led Zeppline's song Thank You. What does this have to do with transition? Everything!!! Sometimes, you also need to be innovated in the way you work your transition. You might be on deployment, have a difficult chain of command, not have started early enough, or have difficult life circumstances which prevent you from taking advantage of scheduled meeting, miss networking opportunities, or even missed out on TAP classes. When that happens, you have to be able to figure out how to get the information you need in order to help your transition go as smoothly as possible. You can use LinkedIn to connect with transition experts who can help you at your timeline, allowing you get the information you need. There is always a way. You just need to look outside the box. If people just do their own thing, march to their own tune, it sounds awful, and is doomed to failure. A musician playing in an orchestra knows that everyone must play together in harmony, and follow the lead from the conductor. Picture yourself as the conductor in your own business. Is everyone playing in tune, considering the bigger picture? Or is it chaos with everyone doing their own thing? It’s not up to everyone else to change, it’s up to you to step up, seize the baton, take the lead and give proper instruction. Harmony will follow. #smallbusinessowner #scalingforsale

There are lessons for all of us in this picture. Did you know that the original four members of U2 have been together over 47 years? And do you know why? Because they decided early on to do something nearly unheard of in the music industry - split both royalties and music credit equally. Power and status are two fundamental human needs, so it's natural that people fight for their share. But those fights destroy relationships, organizations, and, most certainly, bands. U2, particularly Bono, was smart enough to realize that: a) No one succeeds alone, no matter how talented. b) 25% of a half-century of world domination is worth much more than 75% of a one-hit-wonder. c) It's a privilege to lift others as you rise. The rest of us should follow suit: If you create reward systems that take fights about power and status off the table, you solve some of the most contentious, costly problems that groups face. And if you're the Bono in your organization, share the damn credit (and the money if you have it). Everyone already knows you're a rockstar. p.s. When should you spend and when should you be frugal? Everyone has their own decision-making process. What you value may not seem valuable to others and what they value may not seem valuable to you. My suggestion? Spend on what you enjoy and be frugal as all get out on things that don't bring you joy. What brings me joy? Music on vinyl. There is something about having a physical copy, the art aspect of the record itself, and being forced to listen to the album from start to finish without skipping a song. What about you?
