SECRETARY 4 LIFE! Administrative Support Employment(or lack thereof!) I cannot comprehend how career professional secretaries (aka, Exec, Personal, Admin Assts, and Legal Admin Assts) are having such difficulty securing employment (including myself). Our tenure, skills, experience, and work ethic is indicative that you will get more than you are asking for -- or perhaps even expecting -- from your administrative support person. You will also reap the benefit of characteristics that set us apart in the workplace as professionals who take pride in our contributions toward meeting the clients/customers needs and working as a team for the success of the firm/company. Specifically, I am currently seeking a PART-TIME (20-25hrs), REMOTE (hybrid if near Laurel, MD) ADMINISTRATIVE job (legal or non-legal, transcription, typist, Exec Asst, Admin Asst). I have ciphered through numerous job sites (including LinkedIn), but most are inundated with every job other than those that I requested and does not meet the criteria specified in my filters. One job offer from a reputable employment site was actually a scam, which I determined while completing my due diligence on the potential employer! My first administrative assistant job was supporting a director in an office services department. One day our field managers got word someone decided to smoke in a merchandise closet, accidentally set a fire which set off the sprinkler system…basically destroyed the room. It was my department’s job to assess the damage, work with contractors and executives on the repair/remediation. One of my responsibilities was to track of the invoices and change orders for the construction project for my manager’s review/approval in addition to confirming we were on budget for the project. This position was my intro to a key attribute of an Administrative Professional - attention to detail. In hindsight, this job is was where I knew I had found my career path. Most importantly, this is the type of experience any Admin/EA will tell you shapes you as you grow into your role. Thoughts on a Friday… Sounds like a series in the making…
