Have you ever wondered why it's so hard for nonprofit organizations to work together, share resources, and form partnerships? A recent survey asked this very question, and the responses were quite insightful. Some of the reasons given were differing missions and goals, limited resources, communication challenges, lack of trust, and power imbalances. It's a bit ironic, isn't it? In an industry dedicated to helping others, organizations often find themselves guarding their own little slice of the pie. But here's the good news – it doesn't always have to be that way! There are many wonderful organizations out there that are willing to lend a hand, share their knowledge, and offer assistance. And for that, we are truly grateful. Speaking of which, there's one local organization that deserves a special shout-out: Thrive Alabama. Led by the amazing Mary Elizabeth Marr, this organization has been an absolute gem. While their mission aligns with ours to some extent, they have gone above and beyond to support us with their kindness and expertise. So, if you're a Huntsville resident in need of medical care and don't know where to turn, Thrive Alabama is the place to start your search. Here's a glimpse into their mission and values: https://lnkd.in/gxbEqVev Let's spread the word about Thrive Alabama and organizations like them that truly embody the spirit of collaboration and compassion. New report this week from The Kings Fund highlighting all the challenges to shifting care left, out of hospital and towards primary, community and prevention. So many things have to happen to enable this, it seems overwhelming. However, right at the heart of the report data gets a mention. Whilst the data we work with is never perfect, linking it all up for systems, adding in data on the wider determinants of health and presenting it in the right way is the start of changing the conversation. It's the start of enabling teams to work differently. It's the beginning of thinking differently and planning for about future population and workforce needs. It's a new perspective and a move to view population, people and needs rather than organisations, diseases and activity. It's a way to look back and recognise the progress teams are making towards outcomes shared across system providers and local communities. Whilst the data is never perfect, without joining it up, it's hard to get started. I work in a team who are passionate about linking data, keeping it simple and using it to drive changes like those described in this report. Medically fragile patients experiencing homelessness all too often receive either a lower level of care (I.e.-congregate shelter, street outreach, etc…) or a higher level of care (SNF, long term care, etc…) than what is needed to support their illness because of the dearth of available resources to fill the gap. We need more programs like these that fill care gaps and to think more broadly about the impact they have on the health and well-being of our communities.
The recently released evaluation of Project Roomkey showed what is possible when there is political will, cross-sector coordination and collaboration, and person-centered approaches to housing and health care. In this new California Health Care Foundation blog, you can read about two Alameda County Project Roomkey 'sheroes' - Alexis Chettiar and Catherine Hayes. These amazing clinicians leveraged their Roomkey success and learnings to create, in collaboration with Five Keys Schools and Programs and other key partners, transitional and permanent housing for medically frail people. They 'do what it takes' for their patients and are an amazing model that we should be replicating across the state. Read about it below. #housingishealth #CalAIM #crosssectorcollaboration

An interesting report published by The King's Fund today calling for increased policy focus towards primary and community services and away from acute settings, in order to relieve pressure, ultimately driving a higher quality of care, and enhanced patient outcomes. A key policy area and battleground for the General Election expected later this year. https://lnkd.in/eP8Gmtzj #kpmgcorporatefinance #healthcare #mergersandacquisitions

After two weeks of incredible conferences, I'll be sharing some lessons learned from the experts and leaders who presented at each event. Follow the SpirituWell to learn more!
Over the past two weeks our CEO Andrew Savitz attended the LeadingAge Minnesota and National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization annual conferences. In addition to meeting the incredible service-oriented leaders from across the memberships of these two organizations, we learned a lot about the opportunities and challenges facing long term care, palliative care, and hospice care providers. Over the next few weeks we will share some of our key lessons coming out of both events. Follow SpirituWell's LinkedIn page to keep up to date on what we share!
