Food for thought...ALERT! Important article reflecting #MarkHurley's past and present predictions about the wealth management industry. As someone who worked five years at Drexel Burnham Lambert (Investment Banking Firm), fifteen years at Merrill Lynch (overlapping with Bank of America), and now twelve years serving the RIA, SFO/MFO and Independent Wealth Management firms, allow me to offer a different perspective than Mark Hurley. I don't think the proper metaphor is a "jungle." A better one is a strategic "chess match." A chess match that isn't played with just AI skills, but with Emotional, Relational, and Spiritual skills! Not Everything that can be Counted, Counts, and not Everything that Counts, Can Be Counted. Albert Einstein If one only looks at "the data" then one will always miss the bigger picture (the why). Mark Hurley said in the article (referring to mega-firms), "But they’re looking for intergenerational assets they could own for 10-15 years, 20 years, 30 years. This is a perfect business for that.” This should be the minimum goal of any wealth management firm because the fiduciary thing to do is look out for the clients' best interests and their interests include their loved ones. With 78 trillion dollars transferring generations as we speak, to ensure retaining "intergenerational assets" THEN THE INDUSTRY MUST START THINKING AND FUNCTIONING LIKE WHOLE FAMILY ADVISORS®️..ADVISORS WHO CARE FOR WHAT THEIR CLIENTS CARE ABOUT MOST AND THAT IS THEIR LOVED ONES. Otherwise the intergenerational assets will always be at high risk from leaving the firms and no aggregator or private equity firm will ever be able to chase this non-linear trend line.
