EU Council adopts conclusions on the current state of play of Space Traffic Management Today, the Council has adopted conclusions on ‘Space traffic management: state of play’. The conclusions address the challenges of an increasingly congested orbital space and the need for a common approach to ensure a safe and sustainable European space policy. The conclusions stress the urgency of developing an EU space traffic management (STM) approach, which will contribute to space safety, sustainability and security, and welcome the progress made so far. #bholegal #eu #spacelaw #stm #eusst #euspace #technologylaw https://lnkd.in/e9DDgPAm

"AAC Clyde Space signed an agreement with the Scottish government to offer Earth observation data through the planned Cyclops satellite constellation. This is AAC Clyde Space’s first customer for the planned four-satellite constellation. The deal announced Tuesday is a pre-commercial agreement worth 612,000 pounds ($783,000). AAC Clyde Space developed the solution in response to CivTech, the Scottish government’s flagship innovation program for public/private partnerships. The agreement will focus on analysis and automating and integrating image data from the Scottish Forestry’s Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) and operations. The satellites data will focus on tree health to identify trees affected by pests and disease. The satellites in the Cyclops constellation will be the first 16U satellites built by AAC Clyde Space and introducing a new generation of Epic View satellites. Manufacturing for the first two satellites is underway and the first satellite is expected to launch in the first half of 2025. “The services we will provide from these ‘Made in Glasgow’ satellites epitomize the benefits of using data from space: a cost effective way of monitoring Scotland’s forests at a time of increased need. Teaming up with Scotland’s government early on has allowed us to develop data services that meet the high requirements of public organizations,” commented AAC Clyde Space CEO Luis Gomes." In my opinion the #zero space debris approach is the only way to make our orbits more #sustainable. What does it mean? In simple words, before you launch you need to know how to get rid of the junk you create. And implement, for example by active removal. Why is it important? Debris hamper #spaceexploration, #spacetourism and create significant risks to #spacecraft. And the numbers are frightening, just take look at newly published Space Environment Report. #esa #innovation
Every year since 2016, ESA’s #SpaceDebris Office has published an annual Space Environment Report to provide a transparent overview of global space activities and how well international debris-reduction measures are improving the long-term #sustainability of space. Here's an overview and link to the full 2023 report. 🔎 https://lnkd.in/ezXWxf9t
