Let's talk about benefits to the business owner, right, who's time is already strapped, right? Not for everybody. Once you reach a certain level, maybe you've got a lot more of your time freedom there. But for business owners that are more the small business owner and they're struggling with their time and their resources, but they're looking for ways to plug it in a way that can serve the community and also where they can maximize their impact. That's good for them and for their business as well. I think it's one of those more higher level concentrated efforts. Things and how do you make your service to the community synergistic with how you're planning to grow your business? How do you get yourself and your business in with like minded people that could potentially services and utilize them as well while you're giving back. So I think that could be a great way to create that synergy between being on a high level, you're demonstrating what you and your business bring to the table at a high level on a board and generally people who are on the board. Have the net worth to be able to utilize services if they are needed so you're not going in expecting anything out of it. Obviously you shouldn't do it for that, but it could be a great side benefit.

excellent article on the state of volunteerism in the non profit sector. I can relate to so many things in here but I'm only 5 years in compared to the author's 30 years. Volunteers and volunteer management is so often misunderstood and isolating. But, it is also a driving force of production in the sector, and we all have so much to learn and unlearn.
