Had a blast at #naeh2024 connecting with the wonderful people across the country who believe that homelessness is fixable and show up to work for it every day. One of the most demoralizing parts of my last job was hearing from elected leaders (almost daily) that they thought the best we could do was ‘manage’ homelessness and they wanted me to be less concerned with ending it through proven strategies and housing and more focused on shelter and sweeps. So I quit. Being back with people who know the world can be different refilled my cup and reminded me why I’m still in the movement. And shout out to Ben Kay who managed to catch the best candid photo while interviewing me. Onward.

Then what we are really talking about is ending poverty. As a wise person at NAEH said to me years ago, "Are the programs and system fixes about keeping homelesseness a rare and short term situation for someone, or are system changes about ending poverty."
