Ultra High Definition or Ultra High Deception? Streaming services are promising 4K but delivering low-quality experiences. Many online reports and discussions on reddit highlight how many platforms compromise on bitrates, sacrificing true quality for bandwidth savings. This results in issues like pixelation, compression artifacts, and loss of detail, robbing viewers of the immersive experience they expect. While these platforms expect distributors/aggregators to submit their content in the highest quality, most of them stream at inferior bitrates and codes. This often boils down to the debate between paid and free OTT services, with some arguing that paid platforms prioritize quality, while others believe free services cut corners at the expense of viewer experience. The impact on live sports is particularly noticeable, with problems like strobe motion and jitters disrupting the viewing experience, even straining the eyes.
