I recently got promoted to Associate Partner at PA (woohoo!). It’s been a long journey to get here. I’ve moved countries, had children, and done a lot of personal growth. Something that really stands out to me is how different leadership is now to what I thought it would be when I was coming up through the ranks. As an Analyst I would look around me and see lots of people that didn’t look like me, behaving in ways that felt foreign to me and driven by incentives that didn’t mean much to me - leadership felt a bit unattainable. But it feels like times are changing. My brilliant colleagues in our People and Change team (Rachael Brassey, Joe Navarre) recently published a report called “A New Way to Lead” (see comments for link to report if you're interested - it's great!) where they talked to over 300 senior business leaders about what is needed for businesses to be successful in the new world. One of the core things they identified is the need to “Make authenticity everything”, to live up to the purpose you espouse even when the going gets tough. This resonated so much with me and the purpose driven, inclusive leader that I aspire to be. I feel fortunate and privileged to be entering this phase of my journey at a time when I can be “me”, when all those things that I used to think were incompatible with leadership (being people focused, being collaborative, being a mom) are now things that are valued and recognized as strengths. I’m really excited about what the future holds for PA, for our clients and for my fellow leaders and leaders-to-be - especially those who don’t fit the traditional mold. Yes, mento! I TOTALLY agree; I remember not too long ago looking up and thinking a) I am not like them and b) I’m not sure I know how or even want to be. Turns out I’m not and I don’t have to be. Thank goodness… I love that our leadership team is growing and developing for the better. Here’s to the next few years smashing it together 🥰
