The NEW JERSEY DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION (NJDEP) has updated the Stormwater Management Rules, requiring green infrastructure in major development projects. This reflects a growing trend towards sustainable and environmentally friendly wastewater management solutions. 🚰 The integration of green infrastructure into New Jersey's stormwater management policy is a progressive step that aligns with broader environmental goals. It not only addresses stormwater issues more effectively but also brings additional benefits such as enhancing biodiversity, improving air quality, and increasing urban green spaces. 🤔 For wastewater professionals, this shift underscores the importance of adopting innovative, eco-friendly solutions in our projects. It's a reminder to rethink traditional approaches and consider the long-term environmental impacts of our work. 🌎 🌳 https://lnkd.in/ez5T2agB #GreenInfrastructure #StormwaterManagement #NJEnvironment #SustainableCities #UrbanPlanning #EcoFriendlyDevelopment #WaterQuality #NewJersey #EnvironmentalProtection #InnovativeSolutions #WastewaterTreatment #UrbanGreenSpaces #InfrastructureUpgrades #EcoEngineering #PublicHealthSafety

What are stormwater permits and when do you need to complete a stormwater permit renewal? When stormwater runoff is generated in developed areas after precipitation, it inevitably picks up “non-point source” pollutants. These pollutants are low in quantity and therefore impossible to trace their origins. The longer stormwater runs over impervious surfaces, where it can’t be absorbed and naturally cleaned by soil, the higher the chance it will be integrated with “point-source pollutants” before it empties into water bodies like rivers and lakes. Anyone who owns these developed areas, streets, facilities (buildings), and/or parking lots, etc., are responsible for obtaining a stormwater permit to ensure that the runoff generated in their area is not integrated with point-source pollutants As managers and owners evaluate environmental risk for 2024 and allocate priorities, #Stormwater should not be over looked. #MooreExpert Rucker Simon, P.E., ENV SP examines how communities that embrace #lowimpactdevelopment can ensure enhanced stormwater quantity and quality control in the recent issue of INFORMED INFRASTRUCTURE. “LID is an effective approach to managing stormwater runoff, combining green and gray infrastructure to reduce peak runoff and improve stormwater quality. Municipalities are incentivizing LID design through expedited permitting, tax breaks, and alternative favorable stormwater development requirements, making it innovative, cost-effective, and faster to build.” #LearnMoore: https://lnkd.in/g_UTfKWY #WalterPMoore #InformedInfrastructure #stormwater #civilengineering

Stormwater management is paramount for industrial buildings, given their potential environmental impact through stormwater runoff. Industrial sites often handle chemicals, oils, and heavy metals, which can contaminate runoff and pose risks to aquatic life, humans, and ecosystems. Effective stormwater management plans are essential to prevent pollution from entering local waterways and protect public health and the environment. Without proper management, industrial buildings risk contributing to water pollution and environmental degradation, highlighting the critical need for proactive measures to mitigate these impacts. This article outlines ten crucial steps for effective stormwater management in industrial settings. From assessing existing risks and adopting best management practices to educating employees and incorporating green infrastructure, these strategies are vital for minimizing stormwater runoff and preventing pollutants from entering nearby waterways. Regular inspections, water quality monitoring, and collaboration with local HOAs further enhance stormwater management efforts. Read on for insights and practical guidance to optimize stormwater management practices in industrial buildings, and enhance your stormwater management expertise! https://buff.ly/3QESJWH #NPDES #NPDESTraining #NPDESTrainingInstitute #TrainingThatMatters #Stormwater #StormwaterManagement #StormwaterProfessionals #StormwaterTraining #MS4Training #MS4sMatter #WaterQuality

Insightful. The state is asking for public feedback for new stormwater management guidelines. If asked, what would you suggest be included in new municipal guidelines for stormwater management and green infrastructure? [PDF] Wet-Weather Flow in the Urban Watershed: Technology and Management Richard Field, Daniel Sullivan digsell https://lnkd.in/ey-SPRwP According to the National Resources Defense Council, stormwater runoff rivals or exceeds discharges from factories and sewage plants as a source of pollution throughout the United States. The Environmental Protection Agency identifies urban stormwaters as the second largest source of water quality damage in estuaries and a significant contributor to the damage to lakes, rivers, and bays. The full impacts of marginal pollution, particularly that caused by uncontrolled overflows, must be recognized now and planning needs to be initiated to improve sewerage sytem efficiencies in order to bring wastewater flows under control. Time is of the essence for municipal programs … Read More » https://lnkd.in/e8QEupWu
