Yesterday was incredible at IAB Interact in Milan 🔥 Our CEO Mattia Salvi took the stage at IAB Interact, hosted by IAB Italia and IAB Europe, for the panel: "Are We Measuring the Right Things?" alongside Steve Lockwood, Head of Client Measurement at TikTok, Nick Reid, SVP & Managing Director, EMEA at DoubleVerify, Alice Beecroft, Senior Director, Global Strategy & Partnerships at Yahoo Advertising, and David Cohen, CEO at IAB US as the moderator. A full 70 percent of a campaign's ROI can be attributed to creative. 🎨📊 This is according to a study by Analytic Partners, cited by Will Rolls from Meta on the MMA Germany Guided Tour in Cannes. 🌟 The Cannes Lions are therefore more relevant than ever in 2024. 🦁✨ After all, creative excellence not only wins awards, but above all customers. Nevertheless, a few more ingredients are needed: Only efficiency in media planning and effectiveness in targeting will make Creativity fly. 🚀 But how do you actually achieve creative excellence? Yulia Kalner from Kantar had five tips for marketers at a presentation in Cannes: Reach people first with bold messages 💬, second with dramatizations 🎭, third with real-life stories 📖, fourth with constant communication 📡 and fifth with humour 😄. Sounds simple, but it's not. Apparently. Advertising still doesn't reach people on an emotional level often enough. Instead, too many campaigns convey a rational message. An example from Germany: campaigns there are 20% less emotional, but 18% more rational than the European average. This is fatal, because emotional campaigns create four times more long-term brand growth and have four times the chance of generating an impact. 📈❤️ Incidentally, one of the most effective methods for real impact is humor. Not only in times when polycrisis and escapism seem to be the most important buzzwords. Humor is timeless. Successful, effective campaigns are more likely to have a humorous component, according to Kantar figures. 😆 Especially in Germany, but also in the UK and some Nordics, humor is a unique selling point. I don't want to play into the stereotype that Germans have no sense of humor. But I have to: in Germany, the number of humorous campaigns is declining: from 31% in the Covid year 2020 to 25% last year. So it pays off twice over to be brave and focus on humor. Attention measurement is getting top billing today…the industry seems to be recognizing its importance to an effective ad experience, and the measurement is improving. 3. After a decade (plus) of pounding the pavement, making the case for incrementality + inspiring consumer action, Digital Out of Home (DOOH) is having a moment - exhibiting improved experiences and better measurement. In an advertising world where reach can no longer be assumed and the living room is losing its choke-hold on reach, DOOH’s organic incremental audiences are going to rise in importance with advertisers.
