There was a period a few years ago in my first business when I dressed girls on the show The Bachelor, I was featured in US Weekly, I got to ride on a private jet, I had my first $30k month, AND my company hit 25k in Instagram followers. How did this happen? I decided to gamify rejection. I call this collecting nos. My goal was to get 20 people to say no to me a month. Turning rejection into something I was aiming for was a huge game changer. It became fun to ask for big things and get out of my comfort zone. I was far less worried about rejection because I made it a game. This helped a ton when I later fundraised for the same company. I was told no by over 100 investors. I turned it into a game and still to this day, I have the list of those that said no. Counting the nos shifted things for me and I am so grateful I tried this. Next week I am running a challenge for female founders. My $5k in 5 days challenge kicks off monday and it's free. Collecting nos will be a big part of it. I lost my job. And sometimes that’s what it feels like, too. Like I’ll find it under the seat in the car or in the pocket of my pants when I pull them from the laundry bin. Other times it feels like a gross injustice, which is closer to the truth of the situation. But cry me a river. I’m far from the first victim of this injustice. Hell, I know people who have gone through the indignity of multiple layoffs. No, for the worse and never the better, the layoff is now a normalized and perhaps formative aspect of one’s livelihood.   It was a great job, inventing, designing and making award-winning, WOW, holy $%&#, innovative toys, which is what I do best.   I spent 9 exciting, challenging years at Hasbro, one of the world’s largest toy makers. Home to Mr. Potato Head, Transformers, My Little Pony, Magic: The Gathering, Monopoly and Furby, Hasbro struggles in the modern economy to compete with Lego and other, nimbler, toy makers better able to capture kids’ and parent’s’ imaginations with innovative toys and games. But that old house is still a great house. It’s got “good bones”.   Hasbro is changing, perhaps for the better, and there will be career casualties as teams are disbanded and dismantled. It’s not cavalier to say lives are changed when you reduce headcount by 15%, and that’s just in 2023. But a new CEO, as well as a “back to basics” approach from new Head of Toys Tim Kilpin, have me excited for Hasbro’s future. Fare thee well.   Hasbro owns some fun and exciting brands and, to my mind, employs some of the most creative, hardworking and caring people in roles from project manager to marketer, engineer to designer. There are even some Hasbro lawyers I’m pretty partial to! I’m thankful for my time there, learning from masters of the craft, collaborating with genius-level talent, and creating award-winning, WOW toys, which is what I do best.   I find myself excited for the foggy, dimly lit unknown of what comes next. Do.Trust and personally, I’ll add that I Know and Trust that God has a plan and what will be, will be. Being a positive spirit amongst everyone you meet and spreading kindness are free behaviors. I like to believe it is my behaviors and how I treat others that allows me to continue to be blessed. #Rue21 filed bankruptcy shortly after I won our $10,000 presidents cup reward. I advised #JoshBurris and #AnnMarie that I would be buying a house. They did not mention that I might want to hold off because I would not have a job history within the next 90 days. I can only wish they embodied the behaviors I have because there is no way I would have allowed my top performer to waste their money and time. Although they may not have been able to share information, I would have advised all winners of cash prizes to plan to save because things may not be as secure within the company. Empathy for the people around you let alone for those who make you money should NOT be that hard. While the CEO and his friends lied to us as a company and personally ruined my home purchase. I am happy to say that …I AM ONTO A NEW BEGINNING WITH A COMPANY THAT I KNOW WILL BE HERE FOR THE LONG RUN AND ACTUALLY PUTS IT’S PEOPLE FIRST! I wish everyone else still hunting for their new home the best of luck! Don’t settle for a $number make sure you ask questions and speak to employees who are currently employed by that company. Culture matters. People Matter. Work for those that truly embody behaviors you believe in! 💎

What I learned in the new gig Month 2: 1. Anyone's personal opinion of the move aside, the the real estate development around the Braves' new stadium is really incredible and a model for what franchises with available capital and land should replicate. And no, the firm would not let me wear my Guardians shirt to the game. Sackings may or may not occur. (An unofficial rule of being from Ohio is you wear Ohio team gear to everything; it's a sickness). 2. If I had to give advice to attorneys that want to get into commercial leasing, one piece of same would be to build and protect your reputation as someone who does things the right way (self-awareness note: I am imperfect at this like every other human). One way to do so is to treat people with respect, even in adversarial transactions. Everyone is a future client, but everyone is a past client too. This past month was the first time a party whom I was opposite many times in their operating capacity asked me to represent them for some owned assets. I was honored. 3. Greta Van Vleet kicks some serious @$$. I'm less late to that party than I was to The Replacements. They sound like what you would get if Led Zeppelin and The Black Crowes circa 1990 had a baby.
