Poverty and power differences between people can make domestic violence worse. This is especially true for groups that have less power in society, such as people who are low-income or undocumented. When people have more control over their economic security they have more power over their lives and more alternatives to unhealthy relationships. To help prevent domestic violence, we need to tackle the underlying issues that make domestic violence harder to stop, like poverty and lack of access to safe and affordable housing. Children's Rescue Fund is committed to increasing access to safe housing in NYC. #CRFNY #Every1KnowsSome1 #DVAM2023 #NYC #NYCShelter

Program Manager - United Nations, at Amazon Web Services (AWS) | Building solutions to alleviate suffering wherever it is found and improve human development
During the 2008 financial crisis, which was the folly of banking/asset institutions, we were blitzed with messaging how it was the fault of poor people, immigrants, and benefit claimants in #britain. TODAY, despite the profound damage to our #NHS, the first safety net for those suffering from #psychological trauma, we are told that #homelessness and the rough sleeping it causes is a 'Lifestyle Choice'. Questionable #ethics in the #uk government. https://lnkd.in/eXPkGg25

The Government of Canada announced that more than $2.1 million (2021-2027) will go to Escale MadaVic to support victims and survivors of sexual crimes in Madawaska and Victoria counties. https://lnkd.in/gc9QSHM9 This funding helps Escale MadaVic improve the sexual violence support services and resources available in remote areas of New Brunswick, where access to services is limited and often unavailable in French. The activities of the “Continued Collaborative Strategy Development" project allows victims and survivors of sexual violence to receive tailored support through a collaboration network comprising over 25 public, private and community stakeholders. Funding is provided by the Department of Justice Canada’s Victims Fund (Sexual Assault stream) for projects that improve access to services for victims and survivors of sexual violence. The government have announced a ‘flee fund’ of £2million providing a one-off payment of up to £500 for victims to flee their abuser and they can apply for a further £2000. Before anyone gets too excited, let’s look at the maths. The ONS statistics for March 2023 estimated that there were 2.1 million victims of domestic abuse. The Women’s Aid Audit 2023 estimated that 23.4% of their sample (38,045) lived with their perpetrators. If we assume that 23% of 2.1 million victims lived with their abusers and therefore would have to flee their home to be safe, that would mean that there are approximately 48,000 people who may need financial assistance in order to leave their abuser. Say that every victim receives the full £2500 payment, that’s only 800 victims receiving a payment. Or 0.016% of victims who live with their abuser and 0.00038% of estimated victims in 2023. So either the government have missed off a few zeros in their calculations or they don’t have a clue about the scale of domestic abuse in the UK. #fleefund #domesticabuseawareness Sources: https://lnkd.in/ePJzqC_H https://lnkd.in/e5bEvhqq https://lnkd.in/ewDZKueK

We are digressing. Our funds are shrinking across our Provinces and Nationally . Many are being re-routed to gender based violence agencies who need increased funds for their already overtaxed supports, not a meager increased to handle so much more with added ht responsibility.. Without specific care and oversite for use in anti-human trafficking this is not the strategy and plan that this country and provinces campaigned on or agreed to . #statsat In 2019, the government allocated one million Canadian dollars ($769,230) to support human trafficking victims or individuals at risk through the Victims Fund, which was the same amount allocated in 2018. . . #ProjectMapleLeaf #CourageForFreedom #EradicateChallenge #Preventionbeforeintervention #StopHumanTrafficking #HumanRights

This is 21st Century Britain right? We haven't suddenly gone through some wormhole tear in the space time continuum back to the Good Old Dickensian Era? This is a complex social issue with no quick fixes, so criminalising the destitute and fining them doesn't feel much like any kind of solution... Maybe we should build big complexes where homeless or poor people could get sent and we could give them jobs so it would solve unemployment and housing in one go - kind of like Work/House solution.... No wait.... Follow the link, act, it will take you 5 mins.... Given the cost of living crisis, the housing crisis and the fact that many households are only a few paydays away from eviction or mortgage default, is it not criminal to criminalise those in circumstances less fortunate?
Tell your MP: none of us should be criminalised for being homeless

ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) is the story of hardworking individuals and families in our community who are working, sometimes two jobs at a time, but are making just enough to get by. One unplanned expense, such as a car repair or hospital visit, can send ALICE over the edge financially. ALICE households don't qualify for assistance because they make too much according to the outdated federal poverty level. Nearly 39% of households in the Tri-County area are ALICE. Are you ALICE? We invite you to share your story to help drive meaningful change for ALICE workers and families. Record a voice message at ALICEvoices.org. If you are an ALICE individual or family, or you know someone who is, Trident United Way has resources that can offer support or you can connect with the 2-1-1 Helpline, which provides information about and referral to health and human service resources. The service is available 24/7, 365 days per year. It is FREE and CONFIDENTIAL. Dial 211 to be connected or text "HELP" to 211-211. #ALICEvoices #ALICE2024 #UnitedForALICE
