I've spent 19 years making records with independent, self-funded artists. Here are some holiday music thoughts. At a point every year, a handful of artists would want to record something for the holidays, but they'd always be torn. Do they spend on their music or niche seasonal music? Both can have good outcomes and getting in on holiday content can be crucial. But, when your budget is limited, you'll probably not choose the music you can promote only 2 months a year. All in all, I rarely ended up working on holiday music with artists like this, even when they had a great song. This doesn't make or break an artist. But, with some added support (like a recording grant 😉), some artists would prioritize these niche opportunities. Just some Holiday thoughts. ✌

Are Your Priorities Your Priority? 🤷♀️ Can I be honest with you? I have been struggling quite a bit lately...dealing with the recent loss of my cat Quincy (and loss of my dog Flopsy earlier this year). 💔  I also will not be with my son this Christmas as he is in Germany right now serving in the US Air Force.  All of these things are weighing heavy on my heart. The good news is - if we look close enough there is always something positive to focus on. It makes me think about my blessings and what I'm grateful for - my husband, getting to spend time with my daughters and my family and getting to do what I love each and every day. It has allowed me to get clear on my current priorities - the things that really matter in my life - and not take them for granted - I'm reminded everyday how short life is.
