The days of number-crunching and compliance-focused services are fading fast. The move to Client Advisory Services (CAS) is reshaping our profession, and it's time to ask some tough questions: • Is your firm equipped to offer strategic business advice beyond the balance sheet? • Has your firm adapted your pricing model to reflect the true value you bring? The future belongs to firms that can transform data into actionable strategies, nurture client relationships, and embrace technology as a partner, not a threat. Looking to get up to speed on what industry leaders think of CAS? Check out this article: https://hubs.ly/Q02H7CP60 #FutureOfAccounting #CAS #AccountingInnovation

2023 threw the Big Four accounting firms into a whirlwind of scandal, sparking a serious rethink on governance. These giants are now pivoting, introducing new strategies to tighten up their global operations. EY in the US is rolling out a new board, while PwC in Australia is testing out some fresh governance moves. But here's the catch: The Big Four's structure as global networks of local partnerships makes governance a bit tricky. The power often rests with a board of senior partners, leading to a pretty closed-off decision-making circle. The recent uproars are pushing for more open, independent governance to keep things in check. So, what's shaking up inside these firms? EY's US partners are voting for more management oversight, likely shaken by the backlash over a big spinoff plan. PwC is eyeing an approach piloted down under, where bringing in an outsider as chair might just stir things up in a good way. Regulators aren't just watching from the sidelines. They're zooming in on these governance structures, with some pushing for oversight boards with outside members. This is especially true in Europe, the UK, and the Netherlands, where the rules for auditing big public entities are getting stricter. One idea floating around is to bring in independent non-executives to offer fresh, unbiased insights. But snagging the right people for these roles isn't a walk in the park. There's a lot of chatter about what it'll take to attract top talent to these positions. Looking forward, the Big Four are walking a tightrope between their old-school partnership ways and the push for more modern, transparent governance. As they tread this path, it's all about regaining trust and staying sharp in a world that's watching their every move. #BigFourReform #CorporateGovernance #Accountability #BusinessEvolution #RegulatoryScrutiny

My latest article for the Illinois CPA Society (ICPAS) Insight magazine focuses on how the accounting profession can transform itself into a profession of trusted partners and advisors. CPAs have incredible experience and insight that business leaders want to hear! Through accountants’ perspectives, data analytics can be leveraged to provide holistic and improved client advisory services (CAS). I also explored insights from Wipfli's Kat Maddi, CPA and Jonathan Acevedo, CPA, on the next generation of advisors. It is clear firms need to embrace change and new CPAs need strong soft skills from the start and an environment to continuously develop and advance advisory skills. Special thanks to Kat Maddi, CPA for contributing to the direction and content of this article. https://lnkd.in/g2UAVG6p #accounting #advisors #perspective

Great article by Kimberly Blascoe, CPA, about the struggles that accountancy firms are experiencing when embracing and scaling CAS (Client Advisory Services). Many initially follow the huge opportunity that CAS brings to their organizations, and quickly understand the huge value it brings to their clients. The struggle happens when they decide to scale this service, with often with no clear growth strategy in place. Great pointers from Kimberly about overcoming the challenges.
