Last week, we marked the end of the 2024 Richmond Summer Event Series with a lunch featuring the Jitneys, Markel Community Engagement and the Alzheimer's Association Greater Richmond Chapter. “The Jitneys are one of our employee resources groups at Markel dedicated to providing an open space for newer professionals, newer hires or really anybody that’s looking for a good community to get connected with and engaged with here. We have a lot of different opportunities to learn about different parts of the company, to socialize and make new friends also some good opportunities to get involved in the community,” said Tanner Grail, a member of the Jitneys' leadership/social pillar. Markel Community Engagement also set up a booth at the event to give away free stickers, tickets to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and encouraged employees to share what causes they care about. The Alzheimer’s Association Greater Richmond Chapter joined the fun as well and shared information about some upcoming initiatives. “We are so grateful for Markel’s partnership with us for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. You all are our Champion Sponsor to celebrate those who raise over $500. We are getting people registered for The Walk to End Alzheimer’s team here in Richmond on Saturday, November 9. Markel does have a team and will be joining us,” said Madison Wilkins, Director of Development for the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Richmond Chapter. “Locally, we also provide care and support in programs. We’re going to be doing a panel with Markel next month to talk a little bit more about early diagnosis and early-stage dementia plus what you can do as there are FDA-approved treatments available now.” It was a great day to celebrate another successful summer series. We’re already looking forward to next year!

We are proud to support the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF) and their 30th anniversary campaign. IICF was formed in 1994 as a way for the insurance industry and its leaders to unite and collectively give back to the communities they serve. “The vision of our founders continues today,” said Wendy Houser, Chief Wholesale Officer at Markel and Chair of the IICF International Board of Governors. “IICF has grown from one office on the West Coast to soon-to-be seven divisions, nine chapters and 800 insurance professionals dedicated to making a positive impact by serving on IICF boards and committees across the US and UK." Throughout 2024, IICF will continue to celebrate 30 years of impact and the insurance industry’s legacy of giving by raising funds in the fight against childhood hunger.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) mandates that businesses who work with chemicals implement a hazard communication program.
