Dutch technology helps building local value chains in Agrofood with the support of Atradius Dutch State Business. During our recent event 'Groeien over de Grens’, I had the pleasure of moderating the Agrofood panel. Here, two Dutch companies shared their experiences in establishing local value chains in Africa and Asia: Martin Riemens of Go&Grow Farm Solutions provided insights into how they helped develop the local onion sector in Senegal by providing agricultural machinery and associated training. Paul Oosterlaken, from equipment manufacturer Kiremko B.V., delivers high-quality potato processing equipment to the local food processing industry. Their motto is 'we go where potatoes grow,' and their equipment is key in establishing a local potato processing industry, for example, in India. Doing business in emerging markets can be risky. Marijn Kastelein from Atradius DSB, Raymond Beimers from Invest International, and Hajo Cijfers from Rabobank provided tips to exporters on how to structure contracts and finance deals. The combination of insurance and finance has proven instrumental for exporters like Go&Grow and Kiremko. Really happy to see this article just published with Shingie Chisoro on what underpins the impressive export performance of SA citrus (open access https://lnkd.in/eG_ygXWB) with findings: 1.      Coordinated changes led by growers through collective organisation in the industry body were central to upgrading and eight-fold increase in US$ exports from 2002 to 2020. 2.      The Citrus Growers Association built shared industry capabilities for market access through R&D investment and certification, working with government to improve regulations 3.      Entrepreneurial grower organisations can improve the bargaining power of growers, such as with regard to concentrated input markets, with transformative effects.

Our Director Rowena Reyes attended the Inclusive Business in Agriculture and Food Systems - National Investment Forum virtually last week. The forum facilitated the exchange of innovative ideas and strategies aimed at strengthening inclusive business models within the agriculture and food systems sector. Session 3: Measuring and Managing the Impact of Inclusive Businesses included the following speakers, Rowena Reyes, Brandon Cheah, Maud Savary-Mornet and Amar Gokhale.
