Thank-you to Professor Ian Hickie for standing up to the disinformation being presented by that horrible, disgusting piece labelled 'journalism' last night. Would love to see the full unedited interview, as you can clearly see it has been pieced together to make the shows point and to attempt to discredit Professor Hickie. . During the interview an exchange about surgical procedures took place: Liam “…I don’t accept that children need to be put at risk unnecessarily.” Me: Excellent Liam, let’s talk about the unnecessary surgeries performed on babies born Intersex, often within days and weeks of birth.  No, oh okay guess you really don't want to share the truth or really concerned about the children. . A note at the end of the show stated that over 1000 children are attending gender clinics across Australia, let's put that into perspective using population data from the ABS for 2021, - 18.1% were aged 0-14 years = approx. < 4.6 million - 5.9% were aged 15-19 years = approx. < 1.5 million so around 6 million people aged 0-19 in Australia. . Okay, so, 1000 is what percent of 6 Million??? 0.017%* of the total population of Australians aged 0-19 years. That's zero point zero one seven percent. . Affirming, accepting and supporting individuals where they are at currently in the here and now is the best approach to get them to be surviving and thriving adults. . 'Gender' is a social construct. . I hope someone checks in today on the young Australian person who they interviewed, who from their own words is clearly still distressed about their gender identity and feeling the need to conform to societies binary expectations. . “I always hear the saying that communication is the key to a relationship. I agree to an extent. I think something more important than communication is comprehension. I think what men can do is try to understand the perspective of their partner more, and truly comprehend what they are saying and/or their needs. From there, as a partner, we need to ensure we are being able to meet those needs. But the overall responsibility we have, or any person in any relationship to work towards or build a healthy relationship is to really understand and comprehend what your partner is saying. Communication is needed, but communication without comprehension is similar to in one ear, out the other. I do love a good Ted Talk and this is a goodie. The elusive 'gravitas', god if I had a pound for every time someone had fed back to me in my time as Recruiter that a candidate simply 'lacked gravitas.' Never one to shy away from asking, how, why, what, I am yet to receive a conclusive definition of what this means in practise, and how it could possibly be measured during a 3 stage interview process. Tell me, what does that word actually mean? Men in suits with big hands apparently. 💥 does a beautiful job in demystifying the insanity we're all being fed. My key take away from this, is one I harp on about a lot already. Words are SO POWERFUL, remember this when you're... feeding back to a candidate having a 1-1 with your direct report when you're delivering a talk to a team But most of all, when you talk to yourself. You have the opportunity to inspire, motivate, lift others (and yourself up) or the chance to tear someone down. I know which option I chose.

The 3rd DC dVET BarCamp put emphasis on the private sector involvement in GESI in their dual VET strategies. The event highlighted crucial factors for success: leadership commitment, early engagement with businesses, and collaboration with associations and NGOs. Sensitization about safe and inclusive environments and building a compelling business case for GESI adoption emerged as persuasive strategies. Addressing community stereotypes was deemed important, and partnerships were emphasized for systematic implementation. During the BarCamp, we had the privilege of exchanging views with Benedikt Metternich, Project Manager at ICEP - Association for Global Development, to discuss the remarkable work being done in collaboration with corporAID in developing countries like Kenya and Uganda. The conversation focused on the essential role of Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) in their initiatives. One of the many key insights from the interview: Despite significant strides, challenges persist in fully integrating GESI in training companies. The interview shed light on some primary barriers and steps taken to address them such as designated Tailored Approaches: Individualized paths are essential to recognise private companies' diversity. Meeting each company where they are, CorporAID and ICEP showcase the possibilities of GESI and promote long-term partnerships.
