There are new jobs and then there are new jobs. This morning is my first as the board member for sales, marketing and after sales of Volkswagen. Few brands have a history like #Volkswagen. And not one has remained as approachable and likeable. Our vision is to build on this to become the world’s leading volume brand. And this path to leadership demands action. I can’t think of a more exciting time to be taking on the challenge of turning that vision into a reality. We are undergoing the most significant transformation in #VW’s history – from pure car manufacturer to software-based mobility provider. That requires deep and rapid change, which my global team and I will drive. With speed, with pragmatism and with passion. Looking forward from this Monday, I can’t wait to start working constructively with my new team. We are taking on a lot – but I am confident that we will deliver what we promise.

Wir, die Mitarbeiter der Ford Werke, sind zutiefst enttäuscht über Ihren „move“ zur Konkurrenz. Wie kann es sein das ein Mann in Ihrer Position nach nur 3 Wochen Urlaub zu einem anderen Automobilhersteller wechseln darf???! Mit Ihrem Wissen hätten Sie mindestens ein halbes Jahr gesperrt sein müssen!!! Ich möchte nicht respektlos sein aber dafür sollten sie sich schämen!

Take a trip to the Autostadt, just behind those chimneys and see what badge, brand and model equity is locked up there. Then take it and run with it. That's arguably the most valuable commodity in the industry right now as older models are reawoken in a head-to-head battle with new upstarts. Some of those round headlights of the 80s/90s would be a welcome return to VW design DNA ;-)

Outside the board few have a passion for a software based mobility provider. The end user still has a passion for the Volkswagen brand, a brand that up to the electric era has given him or her a working class coolness matched by few (the counter reaction on the back of diesel gate has in my opinion been too strong. The electric revolution has - again in my opinion- thrown to much of the brand out with the bathing water.) My question - how will the board of Volkswagen put the GTI, R-Line or the feeling of having luxury car equipment in a working class car, into the software based mobility solutions?
