If you have not yet, meet Susana Muhamad. In the bigger scheme of things, she may have the most important job on the planet - as Colombian Minister of the Environment and President of the world's #BiodiversitySummit "COP16" in October in Cali. The summit is pursuing ways to bring the 2022 Montreal agreement to life, an impossible task: 1. Evaluating progress towards national goals and targets ("30by30") 2. Aligning National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) 3. Monitoring, reporting, and reviewing implementation 4. Provision of means of implementation 5. Addressing issues related to conservation, sustainable use, and benefit-sharing Every single item requires us to departure from today's economic, political and social norm. It requires a different perspective altogether. And exactly that new perspective is offered by Susana Mohamad: #MakePeaceWithNature: "When the Columbian war parties finally negotiated they found a new formula for reconciliation: ecological reparations - healing the wounds of conflict by together healing nature." This is a hugely powerful formula. It invites to redefine our relationship with nature, dignifies indigenous communities and touches future conflict at the root. Thank you, Yadir Salazar Mejia for the warm welcome in the embassy. And thank you, Susana Mohamad, for a wonderfully spirited meeting. If anyone deserves our collective support, it's you and your country! Xenia zu Hohenlohe, Michael Braungart, Sustainable Markets Initiative, The Landbanking Group, Dr. Frauke Fischer, Dr. med. Eckart von Hirschhausen, Maria Furtwängler, Christof Schenck.
