WORK MYTH: People are made redundant because they’re underperforming in their job WORK FACT: Redundancy happens because of company structure, performance and external factors, rather than individual performance Historically, there’s been some shame attached to redundancy. It’s easy to think you’ve been let go because you’ve done something wrong. The reality is it’s almost certainly nothing to do with you. Companies restructure in response to internal and external pressures, and there’s sadly nothing you can do to control that. Let’s take the stigma away from redundancy, and realise that there are some brilliant people out there in need of their next great role. And if you want some help finding it, get in touch.

Redundancy is often a matter of survival for the business. As you say, it isn’t a personal attack, it’s not about performance but sometimes you have to steer the ship in a different direction. I’ve been on the receiving end and on the giving end; both times I left my emotions at the door and did the right thing for the business.
