This year's Lake Nona Impact Forum #LNIF24 is shining a spotlight on women's health. But the question looms: Will the perspectives, innovations, empowerment, and research related to #widows find a place at the table? My experience from last year's forum revealed a glaring omission—despite the backdrop of a pandemic that significantly increased the number of #widows, their health challenges and adversities weren't addressed even once. This oversight sparked a fire in me, leading me to pen “Reimagining a Future for Widows’ Health: The Next 20 Years”. It's a call to action, urging us to weave the threads of #widowhood into the broader tapestry of women's health discussions and initiatives. From #LNIF24 posts, “It's time to rewrite the narrative and place women's health at the forefront where it rightfully belongs, ensuring that every woman feels heard, supported, and empowered on.” When we say EVERY woman, let's not forget that includes WIDOWS too. #widowadvocate #invisiblewomen #widowhood #womenshealth #inclusion

Health Policy and Program Manager ⏩ Driving Inclusive Social Initiatives to Catalyze High-Impact Community Transformations ▪ Analysis & Advocacy ▪ Strategic Partnerships ▪ Leadership ▪ Maternal & Community Education
The Care Forest is a platform created by doulas for doulas as a safe place for mutual aid. As a cofounder of the Care Forest and a full-time birth worker, I'm utilizing the Care Forest to engage in discussions and provide mentorship to doulas about creating and maintaining a sustainable doula business. The impact that community-based doulas have in birthing spaces have been a hot topic. We are often viewed as mitigators to our country's maternal health crisis, especially with reducing the morbidity and mortality rates that disproportionally affect Black women. Despite the evidence-backed research that shows how valuable we are, the rates that doulas are paid often do not reflect this. If you're a doula, doula support person, or another type of birth worker, join the Care Forest and let's discuss how we can support one in another to ensure that we are receiving equitable compensation for the work and skills that we provide our community. https://lnkd.in/e43fix47
Introducing Lorraine Mejias, MPA and Tonique Griffin, the incredible minds behind Care Forest. 🌿 As part of our Innovation Fund cohort, they're on a mission to create a nurturing haven for doulas and birth workers, fostering mutual aid and culturally relevant support. 💪 #Innovation #FutureOfWork #WorkersRights #SocialJustice #ProtectWorkers #FairWage #LivingWage #EssentialWorkers #LaborMovement #LaborRights #FutureOfWork

Is anyone else nervous that this weeks party manifestos are going to fall short of the ambition needed to genuinely address the challenges we're facing? Well, we are. So today we're sharing our anti-manifesto.. In it, we explore three big picture agendas and some of the efforts from parties so far to speak to them. So far the politics of 'same but better' has prevailed, but we don't think that's enough to deliver on an optimistic future. These agenda's take us beyond the way things are. Where manifestos set out how policy will change, our anti-manifesto challenges us to think about what systemic change they should aim for. A bid to join up current disparate commitments related to care into a bolder vision of a more caring future economy. https://lnkd.in/ekEvEjbM

Content note – this post discusses death and grief Yesterday we hosted a conference on women’s health at The King's Fund. A theme of the day – and of the breakout session I chaired – was ensuring women are listened to by health care professionals. In the session, we had a VCS leader and campaigner talking about experiences where women haven’t been listened to, and a GP and a NHS CEO in conversation with her about the issues and the changes needed. The GP also shared some of her lived experience, and the conversation highlighted the inefficiency of not listening to women and the distress it can cause. The conversation around improvement focused on a need for impatience and a sense of urgency to address this, a focus on people in their whole contexts and a need for services and professionals to stay curious. It was a really insightful and honest conversation, and it felt so good to talk about these things with an audience of interested health system professionals. Yesterday evening, I heard the news that a mutual on Twitter (someone I follow and followed me, we’d never met but had engaged with each others’ content) had died. Her last tweets were about trying to seek help and feeling left alone to deal with her health issues. We had a lot of similarities – similar age, lesbian identity, academic, interest in trauma and mental health. The news was like a physical weight on me, heavy, not just unexpected because of who she was, but also how affected I felt despite having only had a fleeting online connection with her. I think part of this was how much it resonated with the topics we were discussing in my panel. Introducing the session, I mentioned one of my own experiences of not being heard, and made a comment about the range of impacts, from annoying, to actively dangerous. This was a real life example of that danger – and a woman is now dead because of it. She deserved so much better. She’s not the first, she sadly won’t be the last. And it’s so vital we keep highlighting and supporting those who advocate on these issues and try to change them. This is life or death. Rest in peace, @TraumaPHDandMe
Great to be part of The King's Fund conference on women's health today. I chaired a panel with a brilliant group of people: Farzana Hussain, toby lewis, and Eleanor Lisney from Sisters of Frida, talking about ensuring women are listened to by health care professionals. it was so helpful to hear lived experiences of this and the ways health and care services might improve. The importance of understanding a person's whole context, and taking an intersectional lens, was really central. The event overall was also brilliant - thanks to excellent colleagues like Caroline Ashmore for making it run so smoothly!

In today's world, businesses have a unique opportunity and responsibility to make a positive impact on the communities they serve. It goes beyond mere profitability; it's about being purpose-driven and giving back to the very communities that support us. Let's explore the importance of businesses embracing a purpose-driven approach and the incredible results it can yield. First and foremost, expressing gratitude for the communities that nurture our businesses is paramount. As entrepreneurs and leaders, we owe our success to the individuals, families, and organizations that stand by us. By showing gratitude, we acknowledge their support and build stronger, more meaningful connections. Let's remember that our businesses are not isolated entities, but interconnected parts of a larger ecosystem. Moreover, giving back to address specific needs within the areas we operate is an integral part of being purpose-driven. Each community has unique challenges that require tailored solutions. By understanding these needs and actively working towards addressing them, businesses can create a lasting positive impact. Whether it's supporting education, healthcare, or environmental initiatives, every effort counts. Together, we can uplift and empower the communities we serve. Furthermore, supporting social improvement measures through partnerships or direct giving is crucial. Collaboration with nonprofits, social enterprises, and community organizations allows us to amplify our impact. By joining forces, we can tackle complex societal issues more effectively. By investing in initiatives that promote equality, sustainability, and social justice, we contribute to a better future for all. At NVLTY Coffee Co, we believe in putting our purpose into action. We are proud to announce that we are pledging 10% of sales from all our products to Feeding America. We recognize the growing issue of food insecurity in communities across America, especially in these challenging times. By partnering with Feeding America, we aim to address this critical need and make a tangible difference in the lives of those facing hunger. Together, let's embrace the power of purpose-driven business. By expressing gratitude, giving back to our communities, and supporting social improvement measures, we can create a more inclusive and sustainable world. Join us in this journey of positive impact. #PurposeDrivenBusiness #Gratitude #GivingBack #SocialImpact #NVLTYCoffeeCo #FeedingAmerica Keep making a difference!

Mom of 3 | 2x Founder of Carter House Copy + mompark.io | Fractional CMO + Agency Owner | Angel Investor | Advocate for Working Moms
425%. 425%. 425%!!!! 🤯🤯🤯 That's the ROI employers see by helping their employees find affordable child care. Like Reshma Saujani said — if any other investment had this return, it'd be a no brainer. In fact, it'd be financial negligence. Businesses can change policy. The private sector can lead the way. Your organization can finish the fight for gender equality — by finishing the fight for moms. Take 8-minutes— or 2x it and take 4! — and listen to this talk. Phew. It's a good one. #childcarecrisis #affordablechildcare #childcarebenefits #workingmoms #workingmom #workingparents #workingparent
A few years ago, if you had asked me if I ever thought there would be a national summit shining a light on child care as a driving force for economic growth, I probably would have rolled my eyes and said, "In my dreams." Well, sometimes dreams become a reality. Just last month, while pushing CNN to bring child care to the presidential debate stage, the Moms First team and our National Business Coalition for Child Care partners took to D.C. to put child care front and center. From the White House and the Hill to key meetings with CEOs, economists, and policymakers, we made one thing abundantly clear: the child care crisis is not a burden for mothers to take on alone. It is a critical economic issue that demands support from the private sector. Together — businesses, moms, and government — we are building a movement to fight for real solutions for moms. We can, and will, create a world where no parent is forced to choose between their job and their families. A huge thank you to our partners and allies in this fight: Council of Economic Advisers, The White House, JBS USA, TIAA, UPS, Morgan Stanley, Chobani, Boston Consulting Group (BCG), Ralph Lauren, Etsy, Deloitte, Bobbie, Community Offshore Wind, The Adecco Group, Adecco Group US Foundation, First Five Years Fund, U.S. Department of Commerce and U.S. Chamber of Commerce for making our 24-hours in D.C. one for the books. And special thank you to Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo for always championing women and girls. Being a sponsor of the 2024 Business of Aging event places your business at the heart of a successful event addressing the important issues around housing, technology, and healthcare for older adults. This year's theme will center around innovations in Housing for Older Adults. The U.S. housing market finds itself at a pivotal moment: an acute housing supply shortage of about 4 million units coupled with historic home price appreciation have led to a crisis in affordability. Nearly half (46%) of Ohio's renters experienced housing cost burden, and almost a quarter (24%) experienced severe housing cost burden. Our panelists this year are experts in thinking outside the box and collectively moving the needle of change for sustainable innovative ideas in housing for older adults. As a sponsor of this annual event, your business will demonstrate the importance of raising awareness of the needs of our aging population. The audience will be sophisticated leaders in housing, technology, and healthcare. Following the event, the recorded video will be shared with our network of partners and leaders, and will include logos of all 2024 sponsors. Whose Table is it? Imagine a table where change-makers gather, voices fueled by passion for justice and equality. This table isn't just about discussions; it's about acknowledging the dynamics that shape our conversations. When activists, organizers, and supporters unite, the question arises: whose table is it, and whose room? In the world of justice movements, these conversations are vital, yet power dynamics are ever-present. Philanthropists fund essential work, influencing the table and seating arrangements. It's time to recognize this reality and strive for equitable spaces where resources meet needs without overshadowing voices. Let's reshape these dynamics for a more inclusive and impactful dialogue. #PowerDynamics #EquitableConversations #JusticeForAll #GatheringGround Read this insightful Article:
