One of Ford Fund’s most rewarding annual events is Global Caring Month, when we dedicate the entire month of September to giving back to the communities where we live and work, all around the world. The unique part about this initiative is we support community projects proposed by our employees in partnership with non-profits, who receive grants of up to $10,000. Global Caring Month was first launched in 2005, and since then, 100,000 employees have participated in community service projects in more than 45 countries. Employee submissions are now open through May 3, and I can’t wait to see the ideas, passion and heart for service that our employees bring to Global Caring Month this year. https://lnkd.in/gpgQFgG4

Our online project is a non-governmental, non-profit organization dedicated to fostering positive change in our communities, reaffirms its commitment to grassroots initiatives and community-driven progress. Contrary to common practices, Cathedral City Pride clarifies that it receives NO contributions from any city or county for its initiatives. Instead, the organization relies on the passion and dedication of volunteers who fervently believe in its mission of creating a more inclusive and equitable society for all. In a world often plagued by political agendas, our project stands apart by focusing solely on initiatives that benefit the community, devoid of political affiliations. While understanding the political landscape surrounding various topics, the organization emphasizes its stance: it does not endorse politicians but supports resolutions that directly benefit the community. Politicians seeking endorsement are advised to prioritizes projects that positively impact the community. Furthermore, our project extends its support to businesses, particularly small businesses and non-profit organizations in need. The organization staunchly opposes favoritism towards multimillion-dollar corporations, emphasizing its dedication to uplifting those who truly require support. Cathedral City Pride invites individuals, businesses, and communities alike to join hands in championing meaningful change, fostering a brighter future for all. Indeed, "What are you doing for others?" is a profoundly thought-provoking question that often gets overlooked in the hustle and bustle of daily life. It serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of selflessness and empathy in our interactions with others. This question not only prompts us to reflect on how we can contribute to the betterment of society but also encourages personal growth and fulfillment. As a coach, I've observed that individuals who focus solely on what others are or aren't doing for them often find themselves caught in a cycle of negativity, leading to feelings of depression and bitterness. Shifting the focus from oneself to others can be transformative, fostering a sense of purpose and connection that enriches both personal and communal experiences.
Happy National Volunteer Month! This month is all about community and connection, two values that are integral to our company's mission. To celebrate, I want to highlight a few of the ways we partner with local non-profits, like New York Cares, to make a positive impact in our community. As we reflect on the MLK quote on our volunteer t-shirts, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'" let's take this month to answer that question and give back to those around us. Thank you to our team for their dedication to making a difference. Let's continue to work together to build a stronger and more connected community. #nationalvolunteermonth

There is truth in this comment. If you're a company looking to make an impact within your local community by leveraging your employees' desire to use volunteer time, make sure it is worthwhile for both them AND the organization you are helping. If it is just two hours, please, PLEASE reconsider your time commitment! As an organizer on projects such as these, I can tell you that the first 30 to 45 minutes a company volunteer day is spent just herding the cats, introductions, going over safety instructions, and doing photo ops. If that leaves just 75 to 90 minutes to actually work, your company's staff won't feel like it was worth their time. The employees WANT to get their hands dirty! They WANT to do something that isn't looking at spreadsheets or emails! And most of all, they WANT to know that when they leave later that day, they can say they made a difference. And you know what they say: "You've GOT to give the people what they WANT!" #volunteering #activism

Communities across America are reeling from a weekend full of tornados and severe storms. It's an opportunity for companies to unleash their employees to have REAL impact in the community and not just peddle more performative volunteerism. Seek out organizations like Team Rubicon, SBP, All Hands and Hearts, and others who are more than capable of facilitating the opportunity. More of my thoughts on performative volunteerism in the video. #CSR #socialimpact #corporatesocialresponsibility #EMS #disaster #volunteering #employeevolunteering #nonprofit #teamrubicon

The week before last, MacKenzie Scott announced that she was giving $640 million to small nonprofits that responded to an open call for applications. · Over 6,000 nonprofits applied. · 361 nonprofits were selected. · 279 were each granted $2M, and 82 were each granted $1M. Two things impress me here: (1) The size and scale of this giving is incredible. (2) These grants were entirely unrestricted— to be used however the nonprofit sees fit. My sense is that MacKenzie Scott focuses less on thematic giving and more on identifying those nonprofits that are operating at a high level. I also sense a humility in her approach to giving or rather an understanding that if you pick the right nonprofit, you have to trust that the nonprofit is the subject matter expert in the mission that it is pursuing. I think of this as TRUST Philanthropy. I’ve read a lot of people both praising and criticizing MacKenzie Scott for her philanthropy. With the size of this grant cycle, we will have a case study on whether TRUST Philanthropy is successful. For those nonprofit representatives in my network whose organization has received a grant, I congratulate you, not just for the grant, but for the organizational success you have achieved to warrant the grant in the first place. https://lnkd.in/ezx6ehPF For those of you serving on Boards, ask your Board an ice-breaker question at your next meeting: what would your organization do with a grant that size? Then ask yourself: is our organization performing at the level of these 361 grant recipients? https://lnkd.in/eRtF7aA2

Break out into song for another organization who just signed up with us. Today, we welcome New Stages. For more than a quarter century, it has been delivering professional theatre in Peterborough. New Stages is a non-profit charitable organization that works with volunteers, from time to time, to deliver contemporary plays to supportive audiences. Volunteers are also needed to assist in fundraising initiatives. Did you know that the arts is one of the sectors that relies on volunteers more so than most others? Here are the main reasons that people sign up help arts groups, according to a 2023 survey (in order of popularity): - Feeling like I am contributing/giving back in my community - Applying and sharing my knowledge and skills - Learning something new - Meeting new people - Something to do with my free time - Socializing with friends - Free admission or tickets to arts events - Completing required volunteer hours for school, university or other programs Find out more about supporting New Stages here ==> https://buff.ly/3HgNsiZ #VolunteersRock #ItTakesaTeam #Volunteers #Volunteering #Volunteerism #VolunteerPeterborough #WelcomeWednesday

In today’s business world, companies need to do more than just stand out. They must be seen as good citizens which invest back into the communities that support them. But it can be challenging getting the public to notice the good work you do. Dreambuilders helps its partners maximize public relations value of community programs by aligning them with well-known athletes who have a similar passion for charity work. The contribution to Dreambuilders, a 501c3 non-profit, pays for the entire project and the P.R. event to dedicate it. Dreambuilders will organize an event with the athlete and kids benefitting from the project to highlight the partnership. The event will be promoted to the local media, and the athlete will speak to his partnership with the corporate partner in making it happen. Check prentations, ribbon cuttings and volunteer opportunities for employees can also be included if desired. Dreambuilders has a 10-year track record of executing successful partnerships that garner extensive media coverage for partners like UnitedHealthcare, JCPenney, Albertsons and Cargill. Let us work for your company to breathe new life into the good work you do for others. Learn more about how Dreambuilders can take your company's community relations to another level (https://lnkd.in/ecRb2iTH).
