Shout out to New Mexico Department of Transportation, Idaho Transportation Department, Montana Department of Transportation, and WYOMING DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION on their recent “Tracking to Zero ” awards.
BNSF Railway announced it is honoring the four state Departments of Transportation for their dedication to improving grade crossing safety. These awards are for averaging less than one grade crossing incident per one million BNSF train miles traveled in their respective states.
Examples of actions taken by the winning state DOTs to improve railroad crossing safety include, but are not limited to:
- Installing grade-crossing separations;
- Enhancing signal systems at existing crossings;
- Researching and piloting new crossing safety technologies;
- Utilizing both state and federal funding to maximize railroad crossing safety improvements;
- Prioritizing community education and utilizing land use planning and awareness campaigns;
- Implementing various measures to reduce railroad trespassing.
GoRail works closely with the railroad industry to promote public safety at road-rail intersections through supporting and educating on grants like the Grade Crossing Elimination Program (RCE), CRISI, RAISE, INFRA, and more. We look forward to doing what we can to put even more state's on this list in 2025!
