Faced with frequent power outages, officials in the City of Thousand Oaks are working with Local Infrastructure Hub experts to access federal funding with the goal of building electric vehicle resiliency centers. Located at the city’s regional transit hub, these centers would use backup solar generators and batteries that will keep EV charging stations operating during prolonged outages—helping to ensure that residents and visitors can access the resources they need. Officials from City of Thousand Oaks shared: “Our major focus is how we can provide charging to those who don’t have readily accessible charging. Senior Director of Government Affairs, Deidre Almstead Kohlrus, participated today in the 2023 Orphan and Idle Wells Conference. During the panel, Deidre discussed how Energy Workforce developed standards for orphan well-plugging work and the opportunity to integrate carbon credits into the industry's efforts. Further, she discussed how the energy industry can unite businesses, non-profits and government entities to work on reducing emissions and plugging abandoned wells. #orphanwells #idlewells #energyworkforce

At Invest in Our Future, we believe that the historic investments now flowing into clean energy have created an opportunity to build sustainable institutions that can serve communities in need for years to come.   That’s why we’re supporting state green banks like the Nevada Clean Energy Fund.   NCEF formally launched in 2022 to help the state government tap into new federal clean energy funds and spread them into historically under-resourced communities. In January of this year, they secured $7.7 million on the state’s behalf from the EPA for the deployment of 25 electric school buses across nine of Nevada’s 17 school districts. And in May, they were awarded a $156 million Solar for All grant from the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund.   They’ll use this GGRF money to connect upwards of 15,000 underserved Nevadan households to solar resources—whether through rooftop or community solar installations—over five years. They’ll also invest in technical assistance and workforce development, including solar programming for k-12 schools and universities and Tribally-focused initiatives.   Now, thanks to an IOF grant, NCEF is growing their team, so they can draw down GGRF funding more efficiently while expanding the green bank’s broader portfolio—which is key to their long-term vision.   We’re excited to see them do it.
