However, repurposing these sites for solar energy production can halt the degradation of these lands and protect ecosystems. By installing solar panels, we're not only generating renewable energy but also preventing further contamination and promoting land recovery. This process of revitalization plays a pivotal role in enhancing local environments. By turning brownfields to brightfields, CEP Renewables is at the forefront of this beneficial transformation. Today is the (lucky) 13th anniversary of one of the greatest projects I've ever had the privilege to be part of - the 144-panel solar thermal project atop the Saint Paul RiverCentre. So celebrating with a little look back and a BIG thank you to the partners that made this possible - Kate S., Bill Huepenbecker, Jim Giebel, Anne Hunt, Chris Coleman, Brian Ross, Stacy Miller, Kathy Ross Pavek, Jora Bart, Anders Rydaker, Ken Smith, Bjorn Gangeness, Ray Watts, Jeff Volovsek, Joe Lucas, Jason Coughlin, and the teams from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (Solar America Cities), TKDA, Pioneer Power, Sheehy Construction Company, and Arcon Solar. And bonus shout outs to any other team members from Ever-Green Energy that made that project a reality. This was a first-of-its-kind project in the U.S. and where I cut my teeth understanding how difficult it is to be the first with emerging technology at this type of scale. Spoiler alert - it's hard. But that list of partners above is how we made it happen. It's why the Grid Catalyst program is built on a similar partnership model. And it's why some of you may have seen the project poster, designed by AlyssA Greening, behind me in a Zoom meeting. Westbridge received $47.6-milliion for its Georgetown Solar project in Vulcan County, representing 92 per cent of the total purchase price. Mytilineos had paid 3 per cent upon signing the deal earlier this year and will pay the 5-per-cent balance when the project starts commercial operations. Mytilineos will pay between $217-million and $346-million for the five projects, the combined projects will have 1.4 gigawatts of capacity, enough to power 200,000 homes. Last year alone, our Clinton, Nashua North, and Grand Rapids plants collectively generated a whopping 1,453 MWh of clean, renewable energy. By harnessing the power of the sun, we've avoided the equivalent of 677 tonnes of CO2e emissions, which is like planting 16,710 trees or offsetting the emissions from 2,590,699 vehicle miles. 🌳🚗 Collectively, these arrays have generated an astounding 8,922 MWh of energy over their lifetime, showcasing our dedication to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
