On #Juneteenth, we reflect on the history of racial injustice and celebrate the ongoing fight for equality. We recognize the ongoing struggle for racial justice and equality, dedicate ourselves to continually learning more about these struggles, and acknowledge that there are systemic barriers built into society that we seek to address in our co-op. What is Indigenous-informed EDI? By Sae Hoon Stan Chung, PhD Some commentators believe that Indigenous Reconciliation and EDIA [Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility] are like oil and water: they do not mix. There are good reasons for this view. Reconciliation, as expressed by the TRC [Truth and Reconciliation Commission], aims to disrupt systems that continue the legacy of Indigenous racism and inequality, while EDIA is a social movement that addresses social and workplace discrimination illuminated so profoundly by Black Lives Matter (BLM). The confusion between Reconciliation and EDIA has exacerbated misunderstandings in newcomer communities. To read the rest of the article, click here 👉 https://ow.ly/3WIz50Q1JFY

My book recommendation for #BlackHistoryMonth - 'This Is Why I Resist: Don't Define My Black Identity' by Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu. Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu has made major contributions to race equality, combating discrimination, and promoting diversity and inclusion at national and international level. Her 2021 book This Is Why I Resist holds a mirror up to White Privilege. The book’s repeated message ‘We Can’t Breathe’ emphasises the urgency of action and the need for White people to take responsibility for their own learning about equality and social justice matters. #SalutingOurSisters #BlackHistoryMonth2023
