Breaking news – UK patent application for carbon negative fertilizer! Following a successful review with our partners from Innovate UK and the University of Edinburgh School of Geosciences yesterday, we’re now able to tell everyone what we’ve been up to for the last 15. Months. After many months of somewhat secretive research and development we can now share that we have created a completely biogenic and carbon negative fertilser granule to support arable farmers in their journey towards a regenerative future and 2040 net zero target. The granules, codename ReCharge, are being field tested at locations in East Yorkshire and Fife and, being strongly carbon negative thanks to our unique formulation and forming technology, can help farmers sequester up to 5.2 tonnes of CO2 eq for each tonne applied. Created by mixing only carbon negative or neutral components, the granules fit with existing farm machinery and were applied directly into the root zone when the winter wheat was sown last autumn. Once in the soil the granules slowly soften and break down, forming close associations with plant roots and promoting nutrient uptake. We believe our innovation represents a significant step towards regenerative agriculture, sequestering carbon, improving soil health, maintaining crop yield and supporting farmers profitability. We are now looking to spread the word, ahead of developing partnerships with global fertiliser manufacturers and major food producers/buyers, as well as raising funding to support the building of our first full scale demonstration manufacturing facility. EXCERPTS: BASF plans to turn its agriculture, battery materials and coatings businesses into autonomous units to try to boost earnings, a major revamp for the German chemicals giant that has traditionally been highly integrated. However, "there is no intention to sell these businesses," CEO Martin Brudermueller said during an investor conference. He earlier said external investment partners could be taken on board to share the cost of expanding the battery business. Battery materials and related recycling business units generated sales of more than 1 billion but, along with a new chemical complex in Zhanjiang in southern China, it is one of the areas where BASF invests the most. COMMENT: Note the below/attached on how much BASF's Capex is now focused on their Zhanjiang site as most global chemical companies are now placing a significant heavy (Capex) or light (R&D labs) investment into China as a base for Asia Pacific growth.
