🤕 Content Rehab: Common Injuries and How to Fix Em Injury #1: Rogue GTM leaders that swerve the content team. A big recurring problem for internal content marketers is the crossfire between GTM stakeholders. There are usually two extremes: 🏃♂️ 1) Everyone runs to the content team at the same time trying to get their ideas and assets into production. 😴 2) No one runs to the content team and each GTM function goes rogue. Both are bad, but especially the latter. The result is a mish-mash of messaging that tends to look inward toward the product / service/ company and completely forgets the audience. I call it greedy content. It asks for more than it offers. No one really knows what we should be saying so we default to the dry and outdated product value props. 🤗 The fix: Stop thinking about colleagues as stakeholders and view them as subject-matter experts. Remove the transactional mentality. Create a content partner instead of taking orders and requests. Set up interviews (re: conversations) with each GTM leader. Then, list out the things you keep hearing across those meetings. Problems, challenges, opportunities etc. Now you have a network of ideas, more trust, and more autonomy to move the needle.
