Dear Friends, They say we’re in a race to beat climate change; and it’s a race we must all win together. This is a mantra that we have (quite possibly) taken too literally by signing ourselves up to run the Paris Marathon on 7 April in solidarity with this cause. It’s with a heavy dose of stubborn climate optimism that we will see through each of the 26.2 miles that did for Pheidippides on the first ever marathon some 2,500 years ago. But the important thing to relay here is that we have decided to embark on this imprudent misadventure in support of Vash Green Schools, established by friend and collaborator, Vanessa Nakate. Vash Green Schools is addressing energy poverty in rural Ugandan schools by equipping them with solar panels and clean cooking stoves, simultaneously ending their fossil fuel dependence and improving health. Your contribution could help make Vanessa’s (conversely) prudent venture ‘exponential’ — an adjective we hope becomes a manifestation of our race times and, of course, our collective response to the climate emergency.
