Have you ever wondered what a day in the life of a police officer looks like? This National Police Week, the National Command & Staff College is taking you behind the scenes to experience the everyday realities of those who serve and protect.
Day watch starts early, meaning that officers have to have the discipline to retire early the night before, as they rise and shine before dawn. Once at work, they suit up and hit briefing before the streets. By the time most people wake up, they have deployed into the streets to begin their day. With every call is multiple decisions, balancing the spirit and the letter of the law. As the day ends, the day’s calls dictate their ultimate release; tragedy doesn’t follow a stopwatch. One chaotic day after the other awaits, each day never knowing what the day truly holds.
