Neighbors asked their toughest questions about homelessness and mental health care while supporting a local small business. May is Mental Health Awareness Month. (Trigger warning) Let’s shed light on the profound impact of hunger, homelessness, and poverty on the mental well-being of our neighbors. Did you know? Roughly 20-25% of the unhoused population suffers from severe mental illness, and their suicide rates are 5-10 times higher than the general population. Traumatic experiences, substance misuse, and limited access to mental health services further enhance these challenges. Additionally, chronic hunger and poverty-related stress significantly contribute to poor mental health outcomes. Together we can advocate for comprehensive support systems, including affordable housing, nutritious food access, and mental health services to uplift those in need. This May and beyond, we can break the stigma and build a more compassionate society for our unhoused neighbors. What’s your favorite way to take care of your mental health? Let us know in the comments. #mentalhealthawareness #xaviermission #mentalhealthresource #unhoused #communitysupport #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #helpyourneighbor

Mental health is a significant public health issue that impacts individuals, families, communities, and society as a whole. Neglecting or denying mental health as a universal human right has the potential to lead to detrimental outcomes for society. The prevalence of mental health conditions can result in increased rates of homelessness, substance abuse, violence, and involvement in the criminal justice system. By acknowledging mental health as a universal human right and investing in prevention and treatment, societies can reduce these burdens and create safer and healthier communities. #FactonFriday #Ndinewe

Today is #WorldMentalHealthDay As our chosen Charity for 2023 we have decided to donate £500.00 to BCHA for World Mental Health Day. Let's recognise why it's so important: 1. Awareness: It shines a spotlight on mental health, fostering understanding and empathy. 2. Reducing Stigma: By promoting open conversations, we help break down barriers. 3. Support: Together, we create a network of support for those in need. 4. Policy Advocacy: Advocating for change means better mental health care worldwide. Remember, mental health matters at work too! Employee well-being is vital for health, happiness, and productivity. When companies prioritise mental health, they build a positive, thriving workplace. Thankyou BCHA for supporting people across the Southwest! #MentalHealthMatters #WorkplaceWellness #WorldMentalHealthDay
Today for #WorldHomelessDay and #WorldMentalHealthDay we are proud to share some of the ways we are supporting people across the Southwest who are experiencing homelessness or struggling with their mental health. Mental health and homelessness are deeply connected. A safe and stable home is not just a place to live, it's a foundation for mental well-being. At BCHA, we aim to see people as their whole self and support them through difficult times in their lives with compassion, understanding and hope. Anyone can experience poor mental health and people from all walks of life are being forced into homelessness as we all battle through the cost-of-living crisis. Together, we can make strides toward a world where homelessness is rare, brief, and non-recurring, and where mental health is a priority for all. #EndHomelessness #MentalHealthMatters
